Position Summary


Join a vibrant equity-minded campus community whose excellence is reflected in its community, cultural engagement, and student success. The Department of Chemistry invites applicants for a Full-time, 9-month, Tenure-Track, Assistant or Associate Professor, Organic Chemist or Medicinal Chemist position. Faculty rank will be determined based on the successful finalist’s experience, expertise, and training. The position begins in August 2025.

The Department of Chemistry, part of the College of the Sciences and Mathematics, works to provide the highest quality of chemistry education. The Department is ACS-approved and has an excellent reputation for providing the highest quality of chemical education at a state-school tuition rate. We are a community of educators dedicated to developing graduates who succeed both personally & professionally and contribute to the common good. Supporting research, the department operates the Pharmaceutical Product Development (PPD) program. The department encourages creativity and offers support & mentorship. The faculty members serve as both instructors and researchers.
 
The faculty position involves teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses that may be offered in-person, online, and/or via distance education modalities. The ideal candidate will use innovative teaching skills and demonstrate attention to the learning and teaching needs of the department’s students. The individual will leverage their experience, expertise, and training to the success of the various department programs. The faculty member will collaborate with other departmental faculty and staff to ensure student success.
 
Responsibilities include:

  • Teach undergraduate and/or graduate level classes and laboratory in Organic Chemistry. Additional courses within area(s) of specialization may be assigned based on department needs.
  • Support the Pharmaceutical Product Development (PPD) program by teaching PPD-specific courses
  • May serve as the director of the PPD program
  • Advise and mentor students. Provide academic and professional development support
  • Develop a robust research program in organic and/or medicinal chemistry
  • Serve the University and the community through various service activities
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications


  • Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or a closely related field/discipline. ABD may be considered – must be completed on or before July 31, 2025
  • At least 2 years of experience teaching and conducting research in Organic Chemistry
  • Experience advising and mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate students


Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience working in the pharmaceutical industry, including project management
