Position Summary
Program management of general chemistry courses (350+ students per semester) and collaborative learning/mentor programs that supplement the course and aid students transitioning to college level learning. Lectures, instructs, supports, mentors and trains students to develop course-relevant problem-solving skills, complete lab experiments and reports, and trains mentors to assist students and deliver course material.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Develops and administers the General Chemistry PLTL/Peer Mentor program.
- Oversees the recruitment process, hires and trains mentors.
- Provides instruction and instructional materials for mentor sessions and mentor training.
- Formally evaluates and provides feedback to all peer mentors.
- May teach and/or co-teach mentor courses, as needed.
- Organizes students into study groups according to needs.
- Tracks attendance of mentors and students.
- Maintains office hours for students and mentors.
- Administers weekly zoom meetings for mentor training and support.
Supervise/Direct administration of General Chemistry course including delivering lectures as needed.
- Teaches/lectures during and helps organize weekly recitation sections.
- Runs sections and floats between sections to assist and monitor students/AIs.
- Subs for Chem faculty lecturers when needed.
- Responds to questions from students about administration of the General Chemistry courses and Supplemental Program, about chemistry content-related questions, and about exam and quiz grading, etc.
- Proof-reads quizzes, exams, and other course materials for clarity and accuracy; may contribute original content for these materials..
Coordinate and evaluate undergraduate learning assessments, student/instructor evaluations and program analyses.
- Evaluates results to analyze impact and of mentor program and further develop programs as needed. The Academic Learning Program Manager may also be involved with educational-development activities or education-research projects, collaboratively with members of the Chemistry faculty or the Center for Teaching and Learning.
- May assist with educational development activities and/or education-related research projects.
Create surveys, course materials, aid in writing and proofreading exams and quizzes.
- Prints and distributes packets and posts files for mentors and students.
- Leads exam reviews.
Train graduate assistants in instruction (AIs) and schedule subsections, evaluate and mentor AIs throughout the year.
- Provides training to AIs on grading and administering sections, office hours, etc.
Other duties as assigned.

Salary Range
$53,100.00 - $90,600.00 / Annually
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
