R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited (Burnside) has an opening for a CAD Technician / Designer to join our Water/Wastewater Linear Infrastructure team.  The ideal candidate will have 5 or more years of related experience and a passion for creating not just average, but excellent engineering drawings.

The Linear Infrastructure team undertakes the preliminary design, detailed design and construction contract administration for watermains, sanitary sewers and wastewater forcemains for public sector clients.


Our growing team has several ongoing and upcoming linear infrastructure projects involving not only local watermain and sewer replacements but also large-diameter water transmission main, trunk sanitary sewer and trenchless projects throughout Southern Ontario. 


The successful candidate will join an experienced team of professionals that has earned a reputation as a trusted consultant of choice for several significant clients.


The Role


The position involves providing assistance to Project Managers, Professional Engineers and technical staff on a variety of projects.


The successful candidate will:



  • Perform infrastructure design and prepare detailed engineering design drawings;

  • Provide project support;

  • Work closely with staff at various levels to ensure projects are carried out in an efficient and professional manner; and

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


The following qualifications, experience and skills are required:



  • Diploma/certificate in Civil Technology or related program;

  • 4-5 years (or more) of experience with AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D;

  • Experience with municipal infrastructure design.


The following experience and skills are considered assets:



  • Certified Engineering Technologist Designation;

  • Experience with construction inspection and topographic surveying;

  • 1-2 years of experience with MicroStation / OpenRoads.


Competencies



  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written skills;

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;

  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office products; and

  • Ability to manage time to complete multiple tasks.
