About Role
Howden Group Holdings’ businesses in the United States, including Howden Tiger and DUAL North America, are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Corporate Paralegal to join our legal team. As an integral member of Howden Group, you will provide strategic support to legal counsel on a wide range of matters. You will play a vital role in protecting the company's interests, mitigating legal risks, and fostering a positive and inclusive work environment. The ideal candidate will be meticulous and organized and possess strong communications skills. A deep knowledge of the contracts processes, litigation and records management will be a plus.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the legal team in developing contract preparation processes;
- Utilize templates to prepare initial drafts of contracts;
- Guide contracts through the review process, including tracking and maintaining a calendar of due dates and interacting with legal team and other internal stakeholders to ensure timely progression through the contracting process;
- Ensure contracts are signed and shared with appropriate internal stakeholders;
- Assist legal team in ensuring contracting governance processes are followed and documented, including maintaining shared drive of legal documents;
- Develop and maintain information management and filing processes;
- Assist with reporting processes to internal stakeholders and external regulators and authorities;
- Assist corporate secretary on corporate governance matters, including, but not limited to resolutions, board minutes, officer and director appointments, etc.;
- Assist legal team with tracking Department of Insurance and Surplus Lines Association bulletins and press releases that are relevant to the business units;
- Perform discrete research projects under the supervision and alongside the legal team;
- Assist legal team with responses to subpoenas, complaints and Department of Insurance requests;
- Assist legal team with oversight of litigation, including working with internal business units and external counsels’ offices to gather information and documents needed for pleadings, motions and discovery responses
- Actively undertakes personal development to ensure up to date knowledge and understanding of best practice;
- Remains aware of external, industry, legal and regulatory developments to ensure practice and work product are of a sufficiently high standard;
- Keeps informed of all legal and regulatory developments relevant to the Operating Entity/Group,
Qualifications:
- 5+ years as a Paralegal in a legal department, law firm, or corporate setting required
- Experience specifically in reinsurance or the insurance industry is considered a plus.
- Bachelor's degree in legal studies, paralegal studies, business administration, or a related field a plus.
- Effective organizational skills to manage and prioritize multiple tasks, handle a high volume of documents, and meet deadlines.
- Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to apply legal principles to practical business situations.
- Strong negotiation, drafting, and communication skills, with the ability to explain legal concepts clearly and concisely to non-legal professionals.
- Ability to work collaboratively and build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, including HR, management teams, and employees at all levels.
- Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Outlook, Excel, Powerpoint.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
- Three days in-office preferred, but remote work will be considered.
