Our Next Junior Geochemist…

 

We have an exciting opportunity for a Junior Geochemist to join our team! This role will provide working technical knowledge to assist geoscientists, design engineers and closure specialists to support the delivery of Okane’s leading mine closure consulting services through an integrated life of mine approach.  This is a full time role open to our Perth office. 

 

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities 

 

  • Prepare proficient technical documentation and reports for geochemistry related projects.
  • Apply an understanding of geochemistry, geological, geoengineering, hydrogeologic, and environmental principles to assist in the delivery of new approaches to solve basic problems.
  • Apply an understanding around metal leaching and acid rock drainage issues for mine sites and an ability to apply big picture thinking to provide solutions.
  • Develop and manage various geochemical and physical sampling, analytical and laboratory testing programs.
  • Complete QA/QC checks on data captured by field monitoring systems and from laboratory testing programs.
  • Complete background information reviews to support the development of conceptual designs, plans and models.
  • Complete background reviews for conceptual model development.
  • Prepare or review detailed work scopes for proposals.
  • Interact competently with internal and external stakeholders of varying levels of expertise.
  • Foster and maintain client relationships.
  • Perform field studies for the collection of mine waste samples for geochemical characterization.
  • Update and maintain geochemical databases.

 

Job Requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in geosciences (geochemistry, earth sciences, environmental science, engineering geology or soil science)
  • Knowledge and experience in using geochemical modelling software is considered an asset (e.g., PHREEQC, Geochemist’s Workbench, MIN3P, etc.).
  • Experience with reactive transport modelling is an asset.
  • Experience in mining or consulting is considered an asset.
  • Advanced written and oral communication skills.
  • Advanced skills in the areas of time management, planning, and organising.
  • Demonstrate an ability to competently use their initiative to resolve tasks or problems that arise.
  • Demonstrate an ability to communicate clearly with colleagues.
  •  Actively seek personal and professional development opportunities.
