Job Responsibilities:
Enhance the operations of the Microfabrication and Microfluidics Unit, where
responsibilities will include
· Develop a process to record facility and equipment usage
· Create and maintain a way to schedule usage of shared equipment, and review
current protocols for process enhancements
· Review inventory management of laboratory supplies and assess areas for
process improvement; manage inventory.
· Enhance laboratory organization and ensure compliance with safety regulations
· Create a preventative maintenance and repair schedule for laboratory
equipment
· Fabricate microfluidic devices and microstructures using photolithography and
related techniques (training will be provided)
· Perform characterization measurements on fabricated devices using microscopy,
profilometry, contact angle measurements, and related techniques (training will
be provided)
· Maintain electronic laboratory notebook to document all work performed using
· LabArchives platform (training will be provided)
Additional responsibilities may include
· Develop and refine protocols for microdevice use based on collaborator
requirements
· Plan and execute modifications to make improvements as needed following
initial use
· Develop, maintain, and update online protocols for equipment operation and
microdevice fabrication
· Creating a training plan to assist new users in equipment use, and assist users in
device fabrication
Required Qualifications:
· Minimum Associate’s degree and/or multi-year related experience or the equivalent;
trade/technical school graduate or military avionics/communication training would be
looked on favorably
· At least 2 years of experience as lab or industry technician, or experience in a
makerspace environment
· Shows initiative to improve lab operations and management
· Good written and verbal communication skills
· Good time management skills
· Good understanding of basic concepts of mechanical systems, fabrication, and assembly
· Experience troubleshooting electronic and mechanical instruments and devices
· Experience prototyping and testing devices and/or instrumentation
· Ability to learn new technical skills as necessary to achieve project goals
· Comfortable using MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Teams)
Desired Qualifications:
· Experience with either microfabrication or tissue culture
· Experience in makerspace or fab-lab environment, mission, and operations
· Experience with safe handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals; familiarity with and
ability to understand and apply information in chemical safety data sheets
· Experience with computer-aided design software (training on the particular package
· used will be available)
