WTKR/WGNT, The E.W. Scripps station in Norfolk, Virginia is searching for a Multimedia Journalist to create impactful journalism on a daily basis. The MMJ researches, writes, captures visual content, and edits stories for multiple platforms. The MMJ will further the station’s mission to tell stories that are important to the people who live, work, and play in Coastal Virginia and Northeast North Carolina. WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Gather and verify factual information for stories through interviews, observation, and research. 

  • Generate creative story ideas daily based on the station’s brand and strategic plan. 

  • Pitch, shoot, write, track, and edit compelling enterprise and real-time stories for live or recorded reports.

  • Work cooperatively with photographer on assignment, if one is assigned.

  • Post stories on multimedia platforms.

  • Develop sources and break relevant stories on all platforms.

  • Other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • BS/BA in related discipline or equivalent years of experience preferred

  • Generally, 3+ years experience in related field preferred

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • Computer literate, including newsroom computer systems

  • Videography and non-linear editing experience

  • Edit video on various editing systems

  • Strong broadcast and AP-style writing skills

  • Proficient at posting content to various platforms

  • Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment

  • Employees work outdoors and may not be protected from weather conditions

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Valid driver's license, good driving record, and ability to provide proof of insurance with the company-required insurance limits
