Shining Stars Montessori Academy PCS is seeking an experienced music educator for the 2024-2025 school year.
Our school is seeking a dynamic candidate who will be working as part of a collaborative team with class teachers educating preK3 through 6thgrade students. The ideal applicant will be an experienced elementary music teacher who is able to work with students with a variety of learning styles and different levels of skill and ability. Experience in Montessori education is preferred; however, training will be available. Responsibilities include planning and teaching each grade where classes are designed to support the overall student’s development and encourage a love of music. Essential to this role is working with parents, establishing respectful communication and relationships. Specialty teachers will also serve the school through committee work and other administrative responsibilities as well as through close collegial work with the faculty.
Under the general supervision of the Principal, the Music Teacher will work with both the Primary through Elementary Guides/Teachers inside and outside of the classroom to support student music appreciation and understandings .
Essential Functions & Accountabilities:
- Support the implementation of a comprehensive and differentiated music program to include instructing in the classrooms and at assemblies for students in grades PreK3 through 6. ,
- Meets with school administration and staff to establish and implement a music education program at SSMA
- Assists school personnel in assessing music materials and equipment needs
- Collaborates with classroom teachers regarding assessment of students in music
- Participates in supporting the school’s vocal/choir and music program in the Montessori Afterschool Program (MAP)
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to the mission, pedagogy and methods of Montessori education
- Possess a clear and demonstrable concern for the children to be taught.
- Have experience in teaching, with an ability to demonstrate excellence in the integration of music arts, and project-based learning into the classroom
- Be able to differentiate instruction based on the needs of students
- Understand how to use formative and summative assessment to inform teaching practice
- Have excellent communication skills and an ability to work well with colleagues, administration, and parents
- Be willing to seek additional training and certification,
- Seek continual learning and self-development.
- Supports music professional development for the school, upon request.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Music or a related field required from an accredited college or university required
- Master’s Degree in Education with a specialization in music and/or curriculum and instruction preferred
- Prior experience with students 3-12 years age preferred
- Demonstrated success in raising the arts appreciation levels of traditionally under-served students
