Paralegal

We are a downtown New Orleans boutique litigation firm handling high level matters for insurers. We are seeking an experienced paralegal to work in a team environment. The right candidate is bored in their current spot and looking for a challenge that encourages independent thinking and direct participation in the development of the defense strategy and implementation of that strategy.

We are interested in someone who does not just carry out tasks but invests in the cases in a substantive manner and offers value beyond the typical. The ability to interact with sophisticated clients and instill confidence is a must. Trial experience is important but not required. Comfort with a busy desk is important and required. Responsibilities include:

• Provide paralegal support to multiple attorneys
• Effectively communicate with attorneys, colleagues, witnesses, and clients
• Maintain Outlook calendar for assigned cases
• Work with in-house and opposing counsel to coordinate scheduling of depositions and mediations
• Prepare draft pleadings and discovery
• File documents with courts using e-filing systems
• Maintain case files using internal document management system
• Issue subpoenas for records, depositions, and trials
• Requesting, reviewing, and summarizing medical records
• Drafting pleadings and discovery
• Work with counsel to prepare for depositions and mediations
• Other duties as necessary 
• Skills required or preferred include:
• Proven experience as a paralegal
• Knowledge of MS Office and ability to work with legal technology (court-filing computer systems, document management software, billing software, pdf software)
• NetDocs and Coyote experience is a plus
• Proficiency in English
• Outstanding time-management and typing skills
• Ability to multitask and being comfortable dealing with a diverse pool of people
• Five or more years of experience preferred
