DescriptionProvide paralegal assistance to Kroger privacy attorneys. This position will focus on sourcing and commercial transactions (contracts), but may include some litigation support. Demonstrate the company’s core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety.
Responsibilities
- Review and revise data protection addendums and other privacy-related terms in commercial agreements with attorney supervision
- Manage DPA process for selected vendors under attorney direction
- Gather and organize information needed for legal privacy review from stakeholders.
- Oversee contract management including tracking status and maintaining contract library
- Develop playbooks under attorney direction
- Receive intake requests from business stakeholders and refers privacy legal matters to appropriate internal and outside counsel when responsible attorneys are unavailable
- Work on special projects as necessary, such as modernizing internal processes or handling business escalations
- Assist with information security incidents, including maintaining incident logs and coordination of working group matters
- Review and process outside counsel invoices for payment, including by verifying against Kroger’s outside counsel policies and communicating with outside counsel and internal legal team members to resolve issues
- Track open legal and compliance issues and follows up with responsible persons across several departments
- Assist with privacy risk assessments, including by communicating with business, legal and compliance teams to ensure completed appropriately
- Audit websites, mobile applications, privacy notices, and other privacy-related communications
- Review external communications and presentations under attorney supervision
- Review and update privacy training under attorney supervision
- Establish and maintain paper and electronic files and filing systems, including for project benchmarking
- Research applicable laws, rules and regulations as needed
- Gather, organize, and distribute privacy-litigation related documents to internal and external counsel
- Maintain pleadings, files, calendars and other case materials in electronic databases
- Perform other work-related duties as assigned

QualificationsMinimum
- Paralegal certificate or paralegal degree
- 3+ years of paralegal experience in law firms, government agencies, and/or in-house legal department
- Excellent Microsoft Word and Excel skills. Proficient in SharePoint, Adobe Acrobat and LexisNexis
- Training in contract law and experience with negotiating, including drafting, meeting, and synthesizing inputs from multiple stakeholders to reach business judgments in accordance with the law
- Demonstrated skill and experience closely reviewing contracts for issues, with the judgement to determine which points are critical and should be escalated
- Working knowledge of (or a willingness to quickly learn) privacy laws in the United States, with a focus on their requirements for contracting with third parties
- Basic knowledge of IT terms and concepts
- Sound critical thinking and analytical skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently without a close supervision
- Patience, attention to detail, and the ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage unexpected or changing deadlines
- Strong ethical compass and problem-solving skills
