Mill Valley boutique law firm is seeking to hire a Litigation Paralegal for immediate hire. The ideal
candidate would have a minimum of 3 years’ litigation experience working on personal injury
matters on the plaintiff or defense side, but otherwise qualified candidates with less or
different experience will be considered.
Litigation Paralegal
Primary duties:
Tracking and working up personal injury cases to prepare them for settlement,
mediation, and trial;
Working directly with existing clients to understand their injuries and the course of their
medical treatment, tracking their medical progress, and ensuring that required medical
appointments are made and attended;
Identifying client medical and billing records that are needed, and collaborating with the
firm’s Office Manager to ensure that records are obtained -- on occasion, the Paralegal
may be required to request medical records;
Extensive review of client medical records to determine the nature and extent of clients’
injuries and claims and/or provide the first opinion on the merit of potential medical
malpractice cases by conducting online research on medical terminology/conditions in
support of such efforts;
Conducting extensive case-specific fact research, including document review regarding
alleged dangerous conditions of public property, and review of potential defendant
assets available in public records;
Potentially drafting both liability and damages portions of demand letters and mediation
statements with attorney supervision;
Responding to discovery with attorney supervision;
Tracking and calendaring court, discovery, and other deadlines;
Fostering productive ongoing client communication;
Drafting pre-litigation claims documents such as notices to public entities and notices of
intent to sue in medical malpractice cases;
Drafting records subpoenas, complaints, and case management statements;
Preparing and editing documents for paper and e-filing;
Working with the Office Manager in other litigation related tasks; and
Performing administrative and secretarial functions when needed.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate would have a minimum of 3 years’ litigation experience working on
personal injury or medical malpractice matters on either the plaintiff or defense side. But as
stated above, otherwise qualified candidates with less or different experience will be
considered. Completion of a paralegal program and/or fulfillment of the requirements to be
legally classified as a paralegal is preferred, but not required for candidates with a strong track
record and applicable experience.
The firm looking for someone who wants to grow with the firm and become a long-term
member of the team. Strong writing and communication skills are a must. The ideal candidate is
bright, ambitious, well-organized, and willing to work under tight deadlines. The ability to multi-
task and to work efficiently and autonomously are also required. Candidates must have strong
experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, Zoom, and other basic computer
software; the more computer and IT-literate the better. Familiarity with California and Federal
rules of civil procedure, local court rules, and litigation calendaring are necessary. Fluency in
another language is also helpful, but not required.
Pay range is $30-$45 per hour depending on experience and qualifications. This is a non-exempt
position, so overtime paid at a rate of time and a half is paid. Periodic bonuses can also be
earned depending on the individual and the firm’s performance, and the contribution the
individual makes to the firm’s work and revenues.
