The Civil Service Commission of the City of South St. Paul is accepting applications for the position of Police Officer. The City anticipates hiring three or more officers immediately with additional opening(s) being filled in the following months. The initial hiring process will move very quickly and this expedited hiring process will consist of panel interviews followed by background and standard medical and psychological assessment .
The 2024 “Top Patrol” annual salary, including longevity for this position is $105,059 + benefits. Benefits include 100% employer paid medical and dental premiums for single coverage plans in 2024, first year employees earn up to 243 vacation and personal hours and up to 96 hours of sick leave. Lateral transfers are encouraged and will be compensated in accordance with prior qualifying law enforcement experience.The Police Officer performs all duties assigned in connection with the operation of the police department (Department). The police officer assists in carrying out the mission of the Department by being responsible for the protection of life and property, the maintenance and restoration of public order, the prevention of crimes, the apprehension of criminals, and the enforcement of laws and ordinances. Duties are performed in accordance with all applicable statutes, rules and regulations and normally consist of patrol, complaint investigation, traffic regulation and personal contacts and service to the public. Officers must be able to act without direct supervision and are responsible for exercising independent judgement in meeting emergency situations. The Police Officer reports to and receives direction from a superior officer.
