PRIMARY/JUNIOR TEACHERS for 2024-2025 - Grade 1 / 2 Teacher

SUMMARY OF POSITIONS: The full-time Teacher will provide an effective program of instruction, establish, and maintain order and discipline in the classroom and school, and undertake student testing and evaluations under the directions of the Classroom Teacher and Principal, according to the policies and regulations of the North Caribou Lake Education Authority. She/he will develop schemes of work and lesson plans in line with curriculum objectives.



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


· Teaching all areas of the primary curriculum.


· Take responsibility for the progress of a class.


· They will have the classroom and learning resources to create a positive student learning environment.


· Planning, preparing, and presenting lessons that cater to the needs of the whole ability range within their classes.


· Motivating pupils with enthusiastic, imaginative presentations.


· Teachers must maintain discipline in their classrooms.


· Preparing and making to facilitate positive pupil development.


· Meeting requirements for the assessment and recording of development.


· Providing feedback to parents on a child/childrens progress at parents evenings and other meetings.


· Coordinating activities and resources within a specific curriculum area and supporting colleagues in delivering this specialist area.


· Working with others to plan and coordinate work.


· Staying up to date with changes and developments in the curriculum structure.


· Taking part in school events and activities may occur at weekends or in the evening.


· Liaising with colleagues and working flexibly, particularly in smaller schools.


· Ensure students growth and achievement are continuous and appropriate for age groups, subject areas, and program classifications.


· Implements instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences.


· Identifies, selects, and modifies instructional resources to meet the needs of students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs.


· Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and school.


Qualifications/Terms & Conditions



· A valid Teacher Certificate from a province in Canada, equivalent to an OCT.


· Additional Qualifications Special Education part I, II & III or Special Education Specialist, and one of Teaching Students with Behavioural Needs, Teaching Students with Communication Needs (Autism Spectrum Disorder/Learning Disability) is an asset but not necessary.


· Knowledge and awareness of the Oji-Cree language and culture is an advantage.


· Demonstrated initiative and skills in the following areas: relationship and community building, educational leadership, communication, conflict resolution, creativity, problem-solving, decision-making, and time management.


· Expert-level written and oral communication skills.


· Demonstrated experience in instructing students with varied learning styles and levels of mastery.


· Knowledge of and commitment to the core curriculum.


· Copies of practice teaching reports and performance appraisals, if available but not required.
