Position Function:
The Department of Chemistry at Mississippi State University (MSU) seeks applications for the position of Department Head. Reporting to the Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, the position is a 12-month appointment charged with responsibilities for all departmental operations, including fiscal and personnel management, academic scheduling, resource allocation, strategic planning, and fundraising.

Department Profile:
The Department of Chemistry has 24 faculty members, including 18 tenure/tenure-track faculty. Their research spans the core chemistry disciplines, including chemical education, as well as interdisciplinary fields like biophysics, materials science, structural biology, and environmental science. Faculty are supported by external grants from agencies including NIH, NSF, DOE, and USDA. The department has recently expanded its research infrastructure by acquiring advanced mass spectrometry, X-ray diffractometry, and NMR instrumentation. The department has a vibrant community of over 50 undergraduate majors and over 80 graduate students, offering B.A., B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will have a strong background in leadership, research, and teaching. The department head will hold the rank of Full Professor and will also be actively involved in research and teaching alongside their administrative duties.
Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Chemistry or related area and be able to demonstrate experience in leadership and possess a distinguished record of research and teaching required for appointment at the rank of Full Professor.
