Description

Position Overview:

The Programmer is responsible for accurately planning and inputting the control program to control contour-path machining or processing of metal and wood parts on automatic machine tools.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Program CNC woodworking or metal fabrication equipment according to company standards and design guidelines.
  • Create Cutrite and Wood Wop programs for CNC machinery.
  • Analyzes drawings, sketches, and design data of part to determine dimension and configuration of cuts, selection of cutting tools, and machine speeds and feed rates, according to knowledge of machine shop processes, part specifications, and machine capabilities.
  • Determines reference points and direction of machine cutting paths.
  • Computes angular and linear dimensions, radii, and curvatures, and outlines sequence of operations required to machine part.
  • Prepares geometric layout on graph paper or using computer-assisted drafting software to show location of reference points and direction of cutting paths, using drafting instruments or computer.
  • Writes instruction sheets and cutter lists to guide setup and operation of machine.
  • Compares encoded computer printout with original program sheet to assure accuracy of machine instructions.
  • Revises program to eliminate instruction errors or omissions.
  • Observes operation of machine on trial run to prove taped or programmed instructions.
  • Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.
Requirements

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Must have an aptitude for mathematics.
  • Be able to quickly analyze, compare, and interpret information, and be able to make sound and accurate judgments based on      best available information.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing or process engineering, electrical, lighting, finishing aspects of wood and metal fabrication,      design, detail, engineering, and bill of material generation.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and change priorities, as required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in reading engineering drawings and working with an engineering/design team in a manufacturing setting preferred. Drafting Associate Degree is a plus.
  • Knowledge of tooling as used in the woodworking industry.
  • Demonstrated hands-on shop floor experience in both metal and wood manufacturing.
  • Experience with SolidWorks, a plus.
  • Experience with Holzma and Weeke machinery, a plus.
