Reporting to the Manager of Stations & Grid Intelligence, this position is responsible for the direction and supervision of all protection and control, substation electrician work carried out of the Country Squire location. The incumbent is responsible for assigning tasks, supervising activities of staff and contractors and ensuring operations are carried out in accordance with acceptable standards and in a timely, safe and efficient manner.

- Ability to provide strong leadership to motivate and direct work to ensure consistency with the objectives of the organization
Education/Knowledge
- Electrical Engineering Technology Diploma
- Journeyperson Protection & Control Technologist and Substation Electrician or equivalent
- Completion of Utility Protection & Control core courses
- Expert knowledge of station related power, control and communications equipment as well as associated test and maintenance procedures
- Advanced knowledge of the Work Protection Code, EUSA rules, ESA Distribution Safety Regulations and all other applicable government regulations
- Basic knowledge of IESO and OEB codes and regulations pertaining to transformer stations
- Intermediate knowledge of the contents and administration of the collective agreement
- Basic knowledge of the Employment Standards Act
- Advanced knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety requirements as it relates to individual, organizational and operational requirements
Experience
- 10 plus years in a Protection & Control and/or Substation Maintainer role
- Class DZ Driver’s License
Major (Primary) Responsibilities
- Provision of Expert Advice: Counsel and confer with the Manager of Stations & Grid Intelligence on day-to-day issues that may have an impact on performance standards
- Budgeting: Prepare and monitor the departmental operating and capital budgets and ensure that the department operates within the approved budget
- Staffing: Review work schedules, hire, manage performance, conduct reviews, and ensure that training and development are available to enhance performance and knowledge level of staff. Ensure compliance with corporate policies, procedures, established best practices, and relevant regulatory rules and regulations
- Management: Ensure that daily work assignments are completed efficiently and according to all work standards. Complete daily reports and ensure planned work is understood, assigned and site visits are conducted to evaluate performance. Ensure employees and contractors follow corporation rules, policies, appropriate safety rules and government regulations. Coordinate the planning, organization and scheduling of planned work with capital group. Ensure that staff has the appropriate tools, materials and equipment to perform daily assignments
- Labour Relations: Manage staff to ensure that the Collective Agreement is administered in a fair and reasonable manner and promotes a positive culture for union/management relations
- Safety: Provides leadership for Occupational Health & Safety activities for the organization to effectively promote a culture of health, safety and loss prevention. Conduct safety visits and participate in monthly safety meetings. Complete accident/incident reports and ensure corrective actions are executed
