Job Description
The QC Chemist will perform laboratory analysis and sampling of raw materials, intermediates, finished products, cleaning verification samples, stability samples and other miscellaneous samples following relevant SOP’s while adhering to current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) to ensure they meet the required quality standards and specifications. This role also involves basic maintenance of technical equipment, use of basic troubleshooting techniques and laboratory stock management.
Primary Location: North Andover, MA
Travel Requirement: The employee will be primarily based in North Andover, MA but will be required to travel to Devens, MA, as business needs arise.
Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities
- Deliver experimental output with a high degree of scientific integrity, both on time and on target, with a focus on quality.
- Actively demonstrate strict compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practices and Good Documentation Practices (cGMP and GDP), Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S) and other relevant standards in all aspects of work. Perform work following all state and federal regulations, including but not limited to GMP, DEA, FDA, etc.
- Manage data by following established procedures, standards and processes. Use the concepts of ALCOA+ to maintain Data Integrity.
- Perform maintenance and calibration of technical equipment with ability to perform simple troubleshooting.
- Create, maintain, analyze and/or update QC data with minimal supervision following established methods and relevant specifications.
- Always ensure the security and safe handling of all controlled substances. Strictly adhere to all Company and DEA regulations. Ensure that waste is appropriately characterized, labelled, stored and disposed in compliance with all Company, state and federal regulations.
- Demonstrate technical and procedural proficiency and self-assuredness in applying EH&S standards. Responsible for reporting all near misses, accidents, and dangerous occurrences through the appropriate Company procedures
- Support the Company’s commitment for environmental health & safety by applying ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, and Sustainability 2025 principals into daily activities.
- Demonstrate good prioritization and organizational skills.
- Interact effectively at all levels, internally and externally, in both written and verbal communication.
- Basic understanding of QMS (i.e., deviations, CAPA, root cause analysis etc.).
- Demonstrate initiative and participate in self-development activities.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- While performing the duties of this job, it is required to stand, walk, reach with hands or arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear when necessary for job activity.
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Regularly works new moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, odors, heat, cold, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.
- Position requires prolonged periods of standing.
Qualifications
- BS in Chemistry, or equivalent required
- Capable using Microsoft Office (e.g. Excel, Word) required
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret English-language chemical periodicals, scientific journals, and regulatory documents required
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and in a team environment required
- Good written and verbal communication skills. Experience communicating effectively to management required
- Good time-management skills and dependability regarding daily tasks required
- Some experience with common analytical techniques such as HPLC/UPLC, GC, NMR, UV-Vis, pH meter, KF, FTIR, or Refractive index preferred
- Previous experience with chromatography (e.g. HPLC/UPLC, GC) preferred
- Previous experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) preferred
- Ability to write clear and concise technical reports.
- Ability to make data-driven decisions
