Job Description:

Pennington Biomedical Research Center, a world-renowned academic research institute of Louisiana State University, is seeking a Research Scientist in the Molecular Metabolism Laboratory.

The Research Scientist will assist the PI in examining the metabolic and behavioral phenotype of mice and rats. Projects for this position will include utilizing preclinical cell culture and animal models to study endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and the ER resident protein starch binding domain containing protein 1 (STBD1) in various contexts, such as cancer, obesity, and diabetes. Hands on training will be provided in the lab for genotyping and metabolic phenotyping of mice, fluorescent imaging, stable and radioactive isotope tracing, and numerous other basic biochemistry assays.

Major Responsibilities

  • Assist with ongoing NIH funded studies investigating various aspects of metabolism in the setting of cancer, obesity, and diabetes.

  • Mouse colony maintenance and genotyping, various experiments involving the handling of mice, animal tissue collection/processing/analyses, and data analysis/maintenance.

  • Design, oversee, and oversee multiple research projects.

  • Prepare abstracts and talks for scientific conferences.

  • Prepare manuscripts for submission to high-impact journals.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in a science related field.

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with rodent models, molecular biology and/or biological techniques.

  • Knowledge of statistical software (e.g. JMP, SPSS, R).

  • Knowledge or experience using equipment for metabolic and/or behavioral phenotyping of laboratory rodents.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five (5) or more years of experience working with rodent models, molecular biology and/or biological techniques.

  • Knowledge of metabolic and behavioral software programs (e.g. Promethion live, Macro Interpreter, Cal-R, Expedata, Ethovision, Anymaze).
