we are seeking s Senior Accountant, Construction who play a crucial role in building Tanger’s capabilities to ensure financial accuracy and accountability for capital expenditures across all disciplines. This position will report directly to the VP, FP&A with geographic flexibility to work remotely offered by Tanger’s hub-and-spoke approach to a modern Teams-driven workplace.


About the Role:


As the Senior Accountant, Construction you will be responsible the development and capital budgets for projects from original performance through completion.  This role is the financial partner to the development and operational teams ensuring financial accuracy and accountability for capital expenditures across all disciplines.

How you will contribute to what we do:



  • Develop and maintain key stakeholder relationships with Leasing, Design & Construction, Accounting, Operations, and other departments throughout the organization.

  • Partner with key stakeholders to understand and monitor revenue projections, project costs, capitalized overhead, fees and owners’ equity costs, and property level expenses for projects.

  • Prepare Investment Committee Memos/Presentations including financial metrics, data analysis, diligence and research to communicate recommendations and conclusions for project approval.

  • Upon approval of a project, utilize MRI Job Cost module to set up Projects, Populate Budgets, and Reforecast project financials and timing:

    • Set up jobs and input approved budget by line-item cost code and set up “contracts” in Job Cost for General Contractor and Architect.

    • Once a project is underway, code all invoices and ensure they are processed by AP in Nexus or MRI Job Cost as applicable. Understand and calculate retainage on general contractor contracts.

    • Monitor Project Status Reports, Job Cost Code by Detail and Job Cost General Ledger reports and resolve issues if needed.

    • Monitor capital expenditure actuals compared to budgets and reforecast in Job Cost monthly.



  • Prepare an annual budget for each project with cash flows by month.

  • Responsible for budget reforecast, updating each project’s monthly cash flow projections for accurate financial forecasting.

  • Proactively adjust and improve Monthly/Quarterly reporting.

  • Establish credibility through respectful, thoughtful engagements, attention to detail, professional integrity, and financial insight.


About You:



  • BS or BA degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field from accredited college or university or equivalent work or military experience.

  • You have 5+ years of experience in construction or development accounting.

  • You have strong critical thinking skills with the ability to anticipate and analyze data to make informed decisions and recommendations.

  • You are detail oriented and have excellent organizational skills.

  • You are self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership in your work.

  • You have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross functional teams.

  • You have experience in applications such as MRI, Vena, and SQL.

Hiring Range Disclaimer


The base salary range represents the low and high end of the hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Tanger's total compensation package for employees.


Hiring Range: $75,600- $112,500 per year
