SENIOR HR MANAGER

Hammer Creative is seeking a Senior Human Resource Manager to provide exceptional HR support and expertise to our 100+ strong workforce. The ideal candidate will build upon existing policies and implement a high standard of best practices that enable us to navigate delicate employee situations and improve the employee experience throughout every stage. This person will stay up to date on current federal and state employment laws, and will provide white glove service to each and every employee by translating complex benefits and policies into easily digestible terms when employee inquiries arise. As a member of the HR & Operations team, a critical aspect of this position will include proactively reviewing and enhancing our HR processes and procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, and routine audits of existing agreements and policies to reflect current legal and industry best practices.

While our staff is scattered across the United States and London, the majority of our team is based in the Los Angeles area. Onsite work is expected to be necessary at our headquarters in Toluca Lake, CA 1-2 days per week as needed. 
 

Responsibilities:

  • Act as the trusted resource to all full-time and project based employees, providing clarity and timely answers to all inquiries ranging from medical benefits and 401K to time-off requests and company policies.
  • Develop and implement HR policies and procedures to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  • Provide expertise, guidance and coaching on preventing, addressing and resolving employee issues and with leaders, managers and HR partners.
  • Partner with the Corporate Controller and Operations Manager to verify accuracy of changes in payroll notes in preparation of bi-weekly payroll.
  • Onboard and offboard project based and full-time staff employees including but not limited to sending applicable onboarding paperwork to talent (NDAs, HMV, SBP, W9, I-9, SHPT, Paychex docs), health benefits, 401K, and mandatory harassment training programs, assist employee as needed during process.
  • Lead Open Enrollment, including plan renewals, employee communications, and advise leadership on best practices to prepare and ensure a smooth open enrollment period. 
  • Manage and approve Self Managed Vacation, PTO, and other leave requests. 
  • Not anticipated but in rare instances, conduct thorough and sensitive investigations into employee complaints, allegations of misconduct, maintaining confidentiality and impartiality throughout the process.
  • Maintain and update personnel files for all employees in Dropbox and Monday.com, draft and execute offer letters, employee agreements and personnel action notices.
  • Maintain and update internal policies and employee documentation to reflect legal requirements and best practices. 
  • Manage Controller employee benefits and systems and partner with Controller on audits.

Skills and Experience:

  • A minimum of 3 years experience in benefits administration, compensation and HR-process functions ideally in multi-state organization that includes hourly and salaried team members. Experience with international support and/or within entertainment, gaming, technology, and marketing fields a plus. 
  • Advanced knowledge of HR policies and procedures, including U.S. and California employment law and regulations, compensation strategies, leave of absence, and performance management.
  • Strong operational thinker, with experience backed confidence to resolve problems by using judgment that is consistent with company culture as well as standards, practices, and employment law.
  • Comfortable working independently across both remote and onsite work settings. 
  • Outstanding attention to detail, strong initiative and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Effectively strike the right balance between being an advisor to the business and an advocate for employees.
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP highly preferred.
 

The base pay range for this role is $100,000 - 120,000. Exact compensation may vary based on several job-related factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to: skill set, experience, education/training, location, business needs and market demands.
