Job Description

The salary for this role is £54,376 (inclusive of a Market Premium Payment (MPP)- £6,000)  Onsite working is expected for 3 days each week, however, we actively support requests for flexible working. 

This role is based at the following site; Culham, Oxfordshire.

This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) , including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions.

The Role

Are you seeking an exciting opportunity to make a real impact? Join our team and help shape the future of fusion energy as a Senior Mechanical Engineer.

In this role, you will be providing technical expertise in remote handling technology, specializing in areas such as machinery and mechanism design, welding techniques, lifting and handling procedures, remote maintenance design, systems engineering and integration, and fusion environment design considerations (including radiation, magnetic fields, and heat). Your critical technical expertise will drive the delivery of remote handling equipment for both fusion and non-fusion applications in challenging environments, following established project methodologies.

Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.

  • Coordinate engineering projects delivered by a multi-disciplinary team
  • Design complex electro-mechanical devices.
  • Perform calculations from first principles as needed.
  • Review designs and calculations performed by team members.
  • Produce technical documents and specifications.
  • Work effectively as part of a larger team.
  • Support procurement and manufacture of robotic devices • Conduct quality verification and testing activities.

Qualifications

Essential Requirements:

  • BEng in a relevant subject or equivalent professional experience. 

  • Experience in the design and delivery of complex Remote Maintenance systems or equivalent machinery. 

Desirable

  • Chartered Engineer as part of a professional engineering institution.

May act as a work package manager and manage the budget for their own scope of work.
