The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Special Assistant to the Vice President for Human Resources and Chief People Officer, UNLV Human Resources [ R0145994]
ROLE of the POSITION
The Special Assistant to the VP for HR provides high level support and oversight for the Office of the Vice President for Human Resources and Chief People Officer in carrying out the functions of a large, complex organization. Oversee the daily operations of the Office of the Vice President for Human Resources and Chief People Officer, including office management; provides responses and resolutions to problems (where appropriate) for faculty and staff across UNLV. This position organizes and maintains the VP’s schedule; manages incoming and outgoing correspondence via various methods including email, written, in-person communication and virtual meetings. This position is responsible for ensuring the Office of the VP is functioning in a consistent, effective and efficient manner.
The qualified candidate will serve as a critical member of the VP’s Senior Leadership Team and will demonstrate both an ability to think in a structured and strategic manner to set long-term strategies for processes, technologies and team members and possess a high degree of attention to detail in daily operations.
The Special Assistant to the VP manages special, non-routine projects, including those requiring confidentiality and coordination with various constituencies. The incumbent must display a high level of professionalism and use discretion and good judgment regarding the many sensitive issues that come through the VP’s office typically with little or no supervision. These tasks are varied and may require utilizing significant independent judgment and sound communication skills.
The incumbent manages all expense, travel, and budgetary documents on behalf of the Vice President. Due to the high profile of the VP’s Office, it is imperative this person is knowledgeable regarding rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. It is critical that the person in this role has excellent writing, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to review, proofread, edit, and rewrite documents prepared for the VP’s signature, or prepared to be sent out on behalf of the VP, ensuring product quality control by reviewing documents and materials for content, completeness, accuracy, proper grammar, punctuation, spelling and usage of words.
KNOWLEDGE
Possess event planning knowledge and effectively coordinate meetings, events, gatherings ranging in size from two people to over one hundred or more.
Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills and the ability to learn specialized databases.
SKILLS
Effectively and efficiently manage the VP’s calendar and email.
Must possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills with excellent written and oral communication skills.
Must be able to scrutinize complex situations and independently implement problem solving solutions.
Exhibit a professional manner in dealing with team members, internal and external customers, and maintain effective, constructive working relationships at all organizational levels, which frequently requires speaking on behalf of the VP.

Ability to interpret, analyze, and synthesize statistics, policies and procedures.
Ability to investigate complex inquiries and issues through research of historical data, current policies, databases for an appropriate and probable outcome.
Ability to receive and screen incoming correspondence and reports and make preliminary assessments of the importance based on interactions with the VP and knowledge of the priorities of the Division to resolve, address, forward, analyze, or follow-up on materials as applicable.
Ability to establish and nurture professional relationships with divisional colleagues, university staff, students, community members and stakeholders.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and 3-5 years of professional related experience, and 1-3 years of supervisory experience. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree
Five to seven years of comparable experience in a similar role with similar responsibilities.

$75,000 - $83,000, or commensurate with the labor market
