Radio-Canada Gaspésie / Îles-de-la-Madeleine is looking for a videojournalist based in Carleton.
A keen observer and critical thinker, you must be able to analyze a broad range of issues in a newsroom focused on producing original content.
You are intimately familiar with the region, bringing a deep understanding of its political landscape, economy, community and the issues affecting that community. Your job is to learn and share new perspectives.
In this role, you will operate independently under the direction of the Senior Manager, News and Programming, to gather, package and present content across all our platforms (radio, digital and television). You will ensure that all CBC/Radio-Canada journalistic standards are met and that our stories are fair, balanced, accurate, thoughtful and immediate, and that they resonate with the communities we serve.
You will report for all editorial platforms as needed. You will do taped and live reporting for all platforms (digital, radio and TV) with a focus on digital content and online articles. You will also write copy for our website and social media accounts.
Function:
Shoot footage, write copy and produce reports for newscasts and information programs in line with corporate standards and policies.
Description of duties:
Keep up with current events by consulting a variety of sources.
Build and maintain a network of sources.
Pitch and be assigned topics for news items, reports, interviews and special features.
Research, gather, evaluate and vet all material on the story being covered.
Plan reports around the story to be told. Conduct interviews, assess their relevance and select the appropriate clips.
Scout locations. Set up and operate a light video camera and related equipment. Ensure the highest-quality audio and visuals.
Provide lighting for subjects or backgrounds. Select and shoot footage. Prepare visual material for reports, ensuring that it complies with technical and esthetic requirements for broadcasts.
View footage and prepare shot and sequence lists.
Decide on story angles. Script and narrate reports. Suggest an intro. Write various copy stories in the style appropriate for the platform.
Edit your reports.
Convey information through various means (news copy, clips, packs, reports, interviews, vertical video, etc.).
Deliver reports on air.
Inform newsroom management of any event that warrants a news flash or special coverage.
Ensure the availability of the resources required to produce your stories.
Drive a news vehicle.
Ensure your equipment is in proper working order, making minor emergency repairs as needed.
Create a stock shot library and media archive.
Carry out all other related tasks as needed.
Your profile:
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
Three (3) years’ journalism experience or equivalent
Skills:
Broad general knowledge
Good knowledge of current events
Solid command of French
Thorough understanding of issues and events particular to eastern Quebec and primarily the Baie-des-Chaleurs
In-depth knowledge of regional, national and international affairs
Ability to work in high-pressure environments with considerable deadline constraints and a significant degree of public scrutiny
Willingness to learn and tackle new tasks across all Radio-Canada platforms
Strong understanding of streaming on web and social media platforms
Ability to generate, pitch and pursue strong, original stories
Demonstrated professional experience using various news platforms, including digital, social, radio and television
Ability to disseminate complex information to a general audience and across all platforms
Interest in shooting and editing video content
Ability to present stories live on air, from within the studio and out in the field
Strong interviewing, writing and storytelling skills
Knowledge of video and editing techniques
Knowledge of CBC/Radio-Canada’s Journalistic Standards and Practices
Valid driver’s licence
Ability to work a variety of shifts including early starts, late finishes and weekends
