The Volunteer Coordinator manages the volunteer program to meet the ongoing needs of the Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (DVSA) Program, working with the Director of Programs, Program Managers, and Coordinators to determine needs of the DVSA program. This role maintains contact with local parishes, community individuals and organizations to increase resource capacity and coordination of agency services through volunteers and student interns. In addition, this role collaborates with the Development & Marketing team in the implementation of strategic public relations, distribution of marketing materials, and coordination of fundraising efforts.  

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  

  • Develops, recommends, and implements short and long term goals for volunteers and student interns and implements strategies to achieve volunteer needs.
  • Researches opportunities for growth in volunteering, such as developing partnerships with other agencies. Plans and executes marketing and public relations efforts directed at recruitment of volunteers from organizations, churches, businesses and other groups. 
  • Instructs and promotes agency services by providing materials and responding to inquiries. Acts as an ambassador for the agency and actively recruits new volunteers, as well as identifies ways to increase resource capacity.
  • Coordinates the recruitment and integration of new volunteers through advertisements, telephone calls, and database. Interviews, screens, and assesses volunteers by matching their abilities and interests to ensure the appropriate volunteer job placement. 
  • Coordinates and schedules volunteer orientation/training sessions to ensure volunteers are trained to state certification requirements. 
  • Develops and maintains volunteer records and database including contact information, activities and supervision history. Ensures volunteers have completed required training and documentation.
  • In coordination with other staff, supervises volunteers and activities implemented by volunteers, giving guidance, assigning work, and coordinating volunteer schedules. Advocates and/or mediates on behalf of volunteers to ensure their ongoing positive relationship with the organization.
  • Evaluates the performance of volunteers and makes recommendations. Recognizes volunteer efforts through written and verbal communication. Coordinates volunteer appreciation events.
  • Leads informal debriefing sessions for volunteers to gather information and improve future projects.
  • Develops yearly public relations plan in coordination with program coordinators and Development & Marketing team to include national awareness campaigns, including stalking awareness month, human trafficking month, teen dating violence awareness month, sexual assault awareness month and domestic violence awareness month and any program newsletters, social media posts, diocesan communications and other PR outreach. In coordination with the Marketing Manager, creates materials to promote agency program in line with Catholic Charities branding.
  • Arranges for Catholic Charities participation in community events, campaigns, fairs, expos, etc.
  • Prepares statistical summaries and other reports as required.
  • Works with Program Managers and Coordinators to develop annual budget plan. 
  • Maintains reporting system to comply with grant standards and the standards for the Council on Accreditation (COA) and reviews COA standards for compliance.
  • Rotates into the back up schedule to provide assistance to shelter staff.
  • Carries out group intakes and facilitates groups as needed.
  • Coordinates acceptance, donor recognition and organization of all donations received within the Council Bluffs office. Acknowledges all donations within 48 hours of receipt.
  • Works in collaboration with all staff to offer direct service programming as needed.
  • Assists in staff onboarding and training.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prefer a solid knowledge of social work and practices as would normally be acquired through a Bachelor’s in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology or related field and 1-2 years of related job experience. 
  • Experience in fundraising and event planning and knowledge of developing promotional material preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of people having diverse social concerns and problems. 
  • Excellent organizational skills. Ability to schedule concurrent activities. 
  • Good knowledge and familiarity with needs and resources in the community. 
  • Requires knowledge of appropriate intervention techniques for working effectively with a variety of problems related to sexual abuse and domestic violence. 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. 
  • Demonstrates familiarity and proficiency with Internet tools and techniques for searching, extracting, and processing information. 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Travel to our service area sites will be required on a regular basis. Overnight travel for continuing education required on a limited basis. 
  • Position requires some evening and weekend hours.
