About the role


We have an exciting opportunity for you to make a difference in the lives of our clients.  The Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for developing and leading several volunteer services. With the issue of loneliness in our community this is an integral role where your key focus is to match the interests of our clients, who are elderly people living in their homes, with compassionate volunteers.


This role is based in Canberra, you will need access to a car and a driver's licence as travel throughout the region (with paid kilometres) is an expectation of the role.


This is a permanent part-time position 22.8 hours per week, which could be worked over three full days or shorter hours over four days.    Hybrid options are available.

Duties include:



  • Working with multidisciplinary teams to build a volunteer service that compliments the needs of HammondCare services and clients

  • Attracting, recruiting and onboarding volunteers, matching their interests with suitable opportunities

  • Managing and mentoring volunteers, supporting them with both online and onsite face-to-face training as well as coordinating social volunteer events

  • Maintaining accurate records in our volunteer database (Salesforce) and following established processes and guidelines for Volunteer Services 

  • Managing the Aged Care Volunteer Visitor Scheme


About you:



  • Commitment to engage and align with HammondCare’s Christian Mission, Motivation and Mission in Action

  • Demonstrated experience in an Administration/ Coordination position

  • Demonstrated experience where relationship building is a prominent component of your role

  • Leadership skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as with others

  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to build rapport quickly and work with people at all levels

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong influencing skills

  • Preferred experience in recruitment particularly of volunteers

  • Intermediate MS Office skills

  • Empathic and compassionate
