SUMMARY:  Inspect and inventory fresh and non-perishable in-bound produce to insure freshness before distribution to member stores. Be responsible for on hand inventory for quality checks and date checks daily. Address produce staff and other AWG associates with questions regarding product either in the warehouse or product arriving.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  The individual must have the ability to perform the responsibilities listed below. The list is not all inclusive of duties that may be requested by the department head or a member of upper management but are intended for an understanding of the purpose of the position. It is the responsibility of each individual at AWG to provide ultimate customer service to our members to support their efforts in increasing same store sales and profits.



  1. Inspect all incoming product to meet established USDA and AWG standards.

  2. With coordination of department manager and buying staff, authority to reject product if it fails to meet established standards, utilizing the tools provided.

  3. Communicate to Corporate and Divisional produce teams any quality issues from either in bound or outbound product.

  4. Work with lumper service and receiving team to expedite all incoming trucks in a timely manner.

  5. Order and ripen bananas.

  6. Inform warehouse out bound supervisors of which rooms to use and put back into the needed bananas for the days selection. 

  7. Observe the bananas being selected to insure product shipped is from the proper banana rooms and is properly covered.

  8. Monitor reserve stock verifying that proper rotation procedures have been observed.

  9. Monitor merchandise in picking slots and reserve in order to check product age and if necessary expiration dates so they adhere to AWG standards.

  10. Inventory all slots weekly and reviewing surplus locations for either missing or “discovered” product.

  11. Examine damaged cases and repair if possible.

  12. Examine returned merchandise and determine disposition of product.

  13. Monitor proper temperature control throughout the warehouse. 

  14. Work as a member of the AWG team so the total job responsibilities are met. Actions must always stress a sense of cooperation, integrity, tact and consideration with our members, associates and division management.

  15. This position requires strong communication and computer skills with the ability to use and learn new technology. All records required by management must be complete, accurate and submitted on time.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:  Degree or equivalent; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.


REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:  Operation of warehouse mobile equipment.
