Job Description:

Position Overview:
The Senior Accountant will play a crucial role in overseeing various financial processes and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. Reporting directly to the Controller, this management position involves supervising and training assigned accounting staff, reviewing financial transactions, and performing month-end closing procedures. The Senior Accountant will also communicate with consultants, sub-recipients, and vendors to reconcile and process accounts payable transactions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervision and Training:
o Delegate duties to, train, and supervise assigned accounting staff.
o Review daily accounts receivable (AR), accounts payable (AP) transactions, and other accounting processes performed by direct reports for accuracy and completeness.

• Financial Analysis and Review:
o Analyze and review monthly journal entries to ensure proper classification and adherence to accounting standards.
o Assist accounting staff with the preparation of monthly invoices sent to grant funding agencies.
o Review monthly bank reconciliations to identify and resolve discrepancies.

• Month-End Procedures:
o Perform month-end closing procedures for AR, AP, and revenue recognition.
o Ensure all month-end processes are completed accurately and in a timely manner.

• Communication and Collaboration:
o Communicate with consultants, sub-recipients, and vendors to collect needed financial information for reconciliations and AP transactions.
o Work closely with a small team to ensure the smooth operation of all accounting processes.


Qualifications:

Required Experience and Skills:

• Education:
o Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration with an emphasis in accounting from an accredited, four-year college or university.
o A graduate degree in accounting may be substituted for one year of experience.

• Experience:
o Minimum of 5 years of related professional accounting experience.
o Prior full-cycle accounting and supervisory experience is strongly preferred.

• Skills:
o Demonstrated familiarity with accounting software applications.
o Strong understanding of current GAAP requirements and Federal Cost Principles and Audit

Requirements (2 CFR Part 200).
o Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
o Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously and meet established workflows and time constraints.
o Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
o Ability to work closely with a small team in a collaborative environment.

• Must be authorized to work in the United States.
