Job Summary

The Licensed Nursing Home Administrator (LNHA) oversees our skilled nursing facility's overall management and operations. The LNHA ensures the delivery of high-quality resident care, compliance with regulatory standards, financial stability, and a positive work environment for staff. This role requires strong leadership, organizational skills, and a commitment to providing excellent care to residents.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Oversee all aspects of the facility's operations, including resident care, staffing, budgeting, regulatory compliance, and quality improvement initiatives.
  2. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and maintain knowledge of applicable laws and standards.
  3. Develop and implement policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure the delivery of safe and effective resident care.
  4. Recruit, hire, train, and supervise facility staff, including department heads, nursing staff, and support personnel.
  5. Foster a positive work environment, promote staff development and engagement, and address employee performance or disciplinary issues as necessary.
  6. Develop and manage the facility's budget, monitor expenses, and implement cost-control measures while ensuring adequate resources for resident care.
  7. Collaborate with the medical director, attending physicians, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate resident care plans and ensure appropriate medical oversight.
  8. Establish and maintain effective communication and relationships with residents, families, staff, and external stakeholders.
  9. Implement and monitor quality assurance and performance improvement programs to enhance resident outcomes and satisfaction.
  10. Conduct regular inspections and audits to assess compliance with regulatory standards, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions.
  11. Manage resident admissions and discharges, ensuring appropriate levels of care and smooth transitions for residents.
  12. Maintain accurate and up-to-date resident records, including medical and financial documentation, in compliance with privacy and confidentiality regulations.
  13. Collaborate with the facility's governing body, board of directors, or ownership group to provide regular updates on facility operations, financial performance, and strategic initiatives.
  14. Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and changes in healthcare regulations and implement necessary updates or changes to ensure compliance and quality of care.
  15. Serve as a liaison between the facility and external agencies, such as government entities, licensing boards, and community organizations.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Skills

  • Valid Nursing Home Administrator license.
  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, business administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous experience in a leadership role within a nursing home or SNF setting.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and local nursing home regulations and SNFs.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a diverse workforce.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with residents, families, staff, and external stakeholders.
  • Sound financial acumen and experience in budgeting, financial analysis, and revenue management.
  • Knowledge of quality improvement principles, performance metrics, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Ability to adapt to changing healthcare regulations and industry trends.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities to address complex operational and clinical issues.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and other healthcare technology applications.
  • Ethical and professional conduct, committed to resident-centered care and ethical standards.
  • Availability to work flexible hours and be on-call as needed to address facility emergencies or operational issues.

Working Conditions

  • Works in office area(s), warehouse, pharmacy, and some positions work in a long-term care environment (i.e. nursing home, drug rooms, nurses’ stations resident rooms, etc.).
  • Moves intermittently during working hours.
  • Is subject to frequent interruptions.
  • Is involved with customers, and customer representatives, family members, residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.
  • Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, and visitors.
  • Communicate with the designated facility staff, nursing personnel, residents, or family members.
  • Works beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
  • Is subject to call back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.).
  • Is involved in community/civic health matters/projects as appropriate.
  • Attends and participates in continuing educational programs.
  • Is subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the workday, as well as reactions from dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke, and other air contaminants.
  • Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB and the AIDS, COVID-19, and Hepatitis B viruses.
  • May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals.
