Overview






The Test Facilities Operation, Maintenance and Engineering (TFOME) contract at the NASA Glenn Research Center provides engineering and technical services in the aeropropulsion and space propulsion and power test facilities.  We are currently seeking an Electrician Apprentice.

 

The Electrician Apprentice is an entry level position that will train under journeyman level technicians for a total of 8000 in an on the job training atmosphere in order to complete requirements for the state of Ohio and NASA's Apprenticeship program.

Responsibilities






  1. Complete on the job training with experienced journeyman electricians for a total of 8,000 hours in order to complete requirements for the State of Ohio Apprenticeship Program.
  2. Learn required technical skills to handle work assignments related to the operation and maintenance of unique research test facilities located at the NASA Glenn Research Center.
  3. Training will include, but not limited to:  Design, fabrication, assembly, repair and troubleshooting of research and development test hardware associated with mechanical, electrical or electronic research applications.
  4. May operate large mechanical tools such as a drill press, power hacksaw, band saw, shears, pipe threaders, brakes, rollers, lathes, and grinders.  Operates small power tools including air wenches, drills, grinders, etc.
  5. Assists in the installation and operation of intricate research test packages in various test facilities.








Qualifications






  1. Candidates must be currently attending or have attended and successfully completed an accredited vocational trades school program, or 2-year associate technical college program in Electrical Applied Science or Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited Technical College or Vocational School.
  2. Must be 18 years of age or older.
  3. Must be willing to complete 8,000 hours of on the job training as part of the requirements for the TFOME contract and the State of Ohio Apprenticeship Council.
  4. Ability to demonstrate competency over the course of the program in order to continue the apprenticeship program and on-going employment.
  5. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions from engineering or supervision.
  6. Must be self-motivated and a "Team Player" with good interpersonal and communication skills.
  7. Must be able to organize time and assignments to properly prioritize efforts for maximum effectiveness.
