Functions

Functions as a Designer I, models and prepares drawings for the construction and repair of marine craft and floating structures such as ships, barges, and tugs.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

Because Eastern Shipbuilding is continually growing to meet the needs of our customers, the essential duties and responsibilities may be different than described.

  • Regular attendance at work and the ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
  • Use computer assisted design/drafting equipment to prepare drawings related to the design of a ship.
  • Responsible for drawing multiple views of any section or part of a ship, depicting relationship of components and parts.
  • May require drafting drawings/sketches in AutoCAD or from 3D modeling software, such as FORAN, for production.
  • May require the preparation of AutoCAD diagrams and schematics for Production.
  • Preform QA/QC checks of peer-generated documentation.
  • Preparation of change request documentation
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Reporting Relationship

  • This position will report to Design Supervisor


Requirements

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • Associate degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology or similar field of study is preferred but not required.
  • Certification as an Autodesk Certified Associate.
  • Exposure to or experience with 3D modeling software, such as FORAN or Ship Constructor.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. 

Citizenship:  U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident Card required.

Desired

  • Working experience with AutoCAD and reading/interpreting drawings
  • Intermediate skill level with Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, display an attention for detail, and function as a team player
