Description

Working with a dynamic team in a collaborative work environment, the Civil Engineer (Intermediate) will be based out of Niagara-on-the-Lake but will be expected to collaborate with our offices in Markham and Kitchener.  

You will assist our local team in the design, construction, and project management of a wide variety of projects including smaller and larger scale municipal infrastructure developments and the civil component of municipal facilities project.  The core requirements for the role are strong technical capabilities covering all aspects of civil design specifically watermain, sanitary sewer, storm sewer and road design.  

You will have hands-on involvement in preparing studies, designs, cost estimates, specifications, and contract documents.  Participation in scheduling, budgeting, tendering, and contract administration for infrastructure projects is also part of the role, including involvement in business development and preparation of proposals.

You will also have significant interaction with Clients, Contractors, and Subconsultants. The position brings with it the potential for excellent career growth as you will be involved in many wide ranging and varied projects.  Travel will be required at times based on project requirements.

This individual will promote the firm’s vision and culture, and meeting the strategic goals and objectives established in collaboration with the Group Manager. 

Responsibilities include the following:


•    Completing assignments with minimal guidance from Senior Engineers.
•    Coordinating Technicians and Designers to ensure that contract drawings are accurately prepared and checked.
•    Coordinating Subconsultants’ activity on projects.
•    Preparing and reviewing written technical reports including but not limited to feasibility studies, concept design, detailed design, and design criteria reports.
•    Preparing contract documents and construction drawings.
•    Performing project coordination tasks including communications with Clients, managing schedules, budgets, and reporting requirements.
•    Achieving budget compliance on assigned engineering projects to comply financial objectives.
•    Delivering projects on budget and within identified schedules.
•    Assisting with writing proposals to procure new projects.
•    Communicating effectively and clearly, written and verbal.
•    Executing projects in accordance with company guidelines and standards.
•    Participating in scheduling, budgeting, tendering, and inspection.
•    Acting as the primary contact for all project-related Client & Company Site Inspector communications.
•    Engaging in a collaborative work environment with your team, as well as other disciplines and offices.
•    Comply and work within a COR Certified environment and adhere to all duties include those specified under the Occupational Health & Safety Act and regulations.
 



Requirements

•    Undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering from an accredited post-secondary institution.
•    Registered, or approaching registration, as a Professional Engineer with PEO.
•    4+ years of progressive experience in designing municipal infrastructure is essential.
•    Experience of designing infrastructure projects in Ontario, is an asset.
•    Proven integrity to deal with sensitive, privileged, and confidential employee or Client matters.
•    Proven ability to liaise and manage Clients, Contractors, and other Consultants’ relationships.
•    Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
•    Results oriented and ability to work under pressure.
•    Demonstrated prioritization, problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
•    Ability to liaise effectively and clearly.
•    Proficient in use of MS Office Suite of products including collaborative software such as OneNote and SharePoint.
•    Valid driver’s license is an asset.
•    Ability to travel within Canada.
