THE POSITION:
This position will be accountable for the construction of watermains and wastewater mains and their associated infrastructure. Additional accountabilities will include maintenance, (preventative and corrective) on both our water and wastewater networks, along with general plumbing as required.



Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Construct and repair watermains, sewer mains, new water services, and house drains
  • Water meter maintenance and replacement
  • Manhole, pump station maintenance & construction
  • To work in confined spaces as directed
  • Complete relevant paperwork required for the Networks section
  • General Plumbing installation and maintenance
  • Sewer & house drainage fittings
  • All associated reinstatement works
  • Traffic control and signing as necessary
  • Operation of plant as required
  • Carry out plant/vehicle maintenance and complete weekly service reports
  • Use relevant skills to assist other areas within the Network Team
  • Perform other tasks or duties as directed by the Supervisor which are within the limits of the employee's skill, competence and training.
  • Observe requirements of the WHS Legislation, relevant to the job and adhere to AlburyCity Policies and Procedures regarding WHS.

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:

  • Based on a 38 hour week, with actual days and times being Monday to Friday, 7.00am to 4.00pm, with an RDO in
    accordance with AlburyCity's RDO guidelines. These times may vary due to operational requirements and will be determined by the supervisor.
  • This position will be required to be on call outside normal working hours on a roster basis, to attend emergency and/or breakdowns. Payment for this will be in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award and the AlburyCity Essential Services Agreement.
  • In line with the provisions of the Local Government (State) Award, this position will receive either the Level 1 or 2 Adverse Working Conditions Allowance, depending on the nature of the work undertaken.
  • This position will be provided with vaccination against the following infectious diseases:
    • Hepatitis A
    • Hepatitis B 
  • This position requires you to wear a compulsory uniform as per AlburyCity’s Our People Dress Code Standards. Our People are required to present a smart and professional image to the public at all times including when in public and when working remotely.
  • This position involves working in a predominantly outdoor environment where a varying range of temperatures, weather conditions and walking surfaces may be experienced. The position requires a moderate level of aerobic and physical fitness to undertake regular physical activities such as walking, lifting, pulling, pushing along with the capacity to maintain normal manual handling tasks across the work day - depending on the nature of the tasks undertaken. The use of relevant work method statements and appropriate WHS standards are an integral part of the role. A full functional and medical assessment is required for this position.
  • This position is subject to alcohol and other drug testing.
  • This position is subject to pre-employment and ongoing respiratory function testing for potential occupational exposure to asbestos or other hazardous dusts in accordance with AlburyCity procedures.
  • This position is located at the Albury/Lavington Depots, with daily visits to external sites/depots, and AlburyCity Administration Building as required.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • TAFE Certificate in Sewer/Water Construction or Plumbing/Draining and/or extensive relevant experience
  • Class C (Standard) Driver's Licence (compulsory to have and maintain)
  • Construction Induction Card
  • Confined Spaces Certificate (compulsory to have and maintain)

DESIRABLE CRITERIA:

  • Trench Shoring Certificate
  • Medium Rigid (MR) Driver's Licence
  • Traffic Controller (Blue Card)

EXPERIENCE

  • Relevant experience in civil related water and sewer construction and repair

SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Experience and demonstrated ability in:

  • Pipe laying
  • Sewer reticulation fittings & valves
  • Water reticulation systems including fittings, valves and hydrants
  • Plumbing systems
  • Minor plant operations
  • Major plant operations
  • Levels and string lines
  • Plan interpretation
  • All prescribed records as required
  • Use of compressed air equipment
  • Reinstatement works
