2nd shift work hours Monday to Thursday 4:00pm - 2:30am, 8% shift differential pay

Summary:   

Abrasive Form is a world leader in high precision Aerospace and Industrial Gas Turbine (IGT) machining. We manufacture turbine blades and vanes for many of the largest gas turbine manufactures and militaries around the world. We use high precision CNC milling, electrical discharge machining (EDM), and 3 and 5-axis creep feed and CBN grinding. 

The CNC Operator has critical areas of responsibility for setup and machining of parts on 3-axis and 5-axis grinding, milling, and EDM equipment to meet our increasing customer demand.  A successful candidate will be a self-starter, committed to safety for self and the team, hungry to learn and make improvement, a high standard for quality and process compliance, and a team player.  

Requirements

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or ability required.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Sets up (or the ability to learn) and operates a 3-axis, Milling, EDM and/or 5-axis creep feed grinding machine to grind flat or contoured surfaces to customer specifications.     
  • Measures parts and reads measurement instruments using the following tools: Dial indicators, micrometers, calipers and plug gauges. 
  • Detailed quality assurance review of work on a continuous basis taking full ownership of the part operation assigned.  
  • Reviews operational processes and makes suggestions for process improvements in production, quality and company performance. 
  • Complete fixture tear-downs and machine set-ups as needed for a specified job. 
  • Identify the need for and complete grinding wheel changes when needed. 
  • Proactively complete daily asset care requirements and subsequently escalate as needed maintenance issues to the immediate supervisor and maintenance team using established maintenance ticket process. 
  • Keep work area clean, organized and free from clutter. The machine must be wiped down each shift. 
  • Other duties as assigned.   

 

Qualifications and Education Required 

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1 year manufacturing experience in tight tolerance production.
  • 5 axis and/or 3 axis and surface grinding experience required.
  • Strong math skills demonstrated through assessment during hiring process.
  • Must be able to measure parts within tight tolerances.
  • Must be able to read indicators and use tools as detailed above.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English for customer, job and equipment specifications.

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • 3 years of experience EDM or wire/electrode EDM, preferred. 
  • 5S standards experience preferred.
  • Prior experience working in aerospace manufacturing industry.

Physical Demands

Talking, hearing and using hands to operate machining equipment.  Ability to load parts into a machine at or above waist height. Must be able to lift at least 25lbs frequently and on occasion up to 50lbs.  Ability to use a computer is preferred. Must be able to work on your feet in a manufacturing environment.  Physical ability to do work requiring frequent lifting, twisting, standing, stooping and bending.

Working Environment

Usual manufacturing environment with temperature fluctuations, noise from and interactions with equipment, and safety standards of PPE and practices required.
