Company Description

Fabick, Inc. is a Madison, Wisconsin-based, family-run business that has been serving its customers for over 20 years. Fabick is looking for a Coatings and Material Testing Chemist to work closely with and assist its Technical Director in material analysis, quality control, and the development of new products and the expansion of existing product lines related to aliphatic/aromatic polyurea and polyurethane protective coatings, sprays, and sealants. Job Description

• Conduct quality control tests and inspection of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality and performance according to the proper standards.
• Assist in the implementation of experiments and applications tests in the laboratory to evaluate samples, document and organize experimental results, and communicate the data to the Technical Director.
• Use an Instron 5966, Bluehill software, Taber and QUV machines, and a Metrohm Titrando Titrator as part of regular duties.
• Induce changes in composition of substances by introducing heat, light, energy, or chemical catalysts for quantitative or qualitative analysis.
• Confer with the Technical Director to conduct analyses of research projects, interpret test results, or develop nonstandard tests.
• Develop, improve, or customize products, equipment, formulas, processes, or analytical methods.
• Manage multiple projects related product testing, complaint investigation, and sales support.
• Assist with customer support through application, testing, troubleshooting, and technical services.
• Write Safety Data Sheets, Technical Data Sheets, project/product related documents, reports, or prepare standards and specifications for processes, facilities, products, or tests.
• Perform other duties as instructed.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s Degree in the sciences is required; a degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or polymer sciences is strongly preferred.
• 5+ years of laboratory experience in the coatings and sealants industry, demonstrating in depth knowledge of coatings science and experience with coatings manufacturing processes and raw materials.
• Experience with polyurea and polyurethane protective coatings, epoxies, and resins.
• Experience using an Instron 5966 or equivalent, Bluehill software, Taber and QUV machines, and a Metrohm Titrando Titrator.
• Knowledge of American Society for Testing and Materials standards and Safety Data Sheet requirements.
• Ability to use applicable computers and software, and knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems for managing data, research, and records.
• Ability to perform physical activity, including but not limited to using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials and manipulating things.
• Ability to speak and write in English.
