The Opportunity…

The GRID Alternatives North Valley Construction Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of installation of PV solar electric systems and other related technologies (such as batteries and EV chargers) for the NV construction team. This includes but is not limited to: Managing personnel, training of staff, overseeing service calls and warranty work, and installation.

Job Duties


  • Responsible for all technical and safety aspects of PV and other related technologies installations

  • Managing and tracking necessary licensing and certifications (OSHA, Fall protection, NFPA, etc) 

  • Manage all QA/QC tasks, Service Work, and Master Tasks - as assigned

  • Manage QC dashboard to insure all tasks are completed in a reasonable time

  • Assign appropriate staff for each task 

  • Attend 1-3 installations per month of PV and/or other related technologies, specifically Commercial and Storage with crews of staff, volunteers and/or job trainees 

  • Responsible for developing and implementing an asset management procedure for construction department (tool, safety equipment, etc) 

  • Train participants (such as trainees, volunteers, and interns) in PV and other related technologies installations with Solar Installation Supervisors (SISs) and Solar Installation Training Supervisors (SITSs)

  • Ensure that all installations are installed according to GRID Alternatives safety and quality standards and to the project’s scope, schedule, and budget

  • Review preliminary budgets for commercial projects

  • Overseeing data entry processes for hours  

  • Work with Executive Directors, Project Manager(s) and the Design Manager on scheduling projects; responsible for ensuring projects are staffed appropriately

  • Oversee projects to prepare for installations

  • Pay special attention to jobs with trainees, etc.

  • Coordinate and engage in inter and intra-department communications, including with, Outreach Dept, Workforce Dept, Development Dept, and Operations Dept, to ensure all stakeholders’ needs are met

  • Lead biweekly construction department meetings

  • Onboard, coach, and manage construction staff (intervene in case of disputes between staff, conduct annual performance reviews, recommend salary adjustments, address daily needs, conduct bi-weekly check ins, etc.)

  • Directly manage Electricians, Senior SIS (Sr SIS),  SIS, and SITS 

  • Indirectly manage all other construction staff 

  • Standardize SIS training and knowledge

  • Review and update Job Descriptions, Roles and Responsibilities, and Skills Matrix for direct reports as needed

  • Train Construction staff on core duties as well as process and workflow.

  • Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for construction Processes

  • Support staff’s professional development

  • Practice collaborative, transparent, inclusive communications and decision-making

  • Work with and report to Executive Director on meeting production, safety, quality, revenue, cost control, and EID goals

  • Ensure installs are performed to pass internal and external quality assurance and control and inspections

  • Review of post-installation photos (as needed)

  • Periodic onsite reviews

  • Review and analyze QA/QC tasks to prevent them from coming up in the future 

  • As Secondary Duties (back up for PM) 

  • Update Salesforce Records and verify Site Captures are created and updated




What you need to bring to this role...


  • Excellent management/leadership skills (ability to build a positive work environment within team)

  • Excellent communication skills (ability to work with volunteers and clients, ability to represent GRID Alternatives positively)

  • Experience in leading a crew in Residential Solar PV installation (Commercial experience a plus)

  • Ability to problem solve both personnel issues and project issues

  • Good record keeping and organizational skills

  • Ability to travel regionally

  • Valid Driver’s License

  • 3-5 years Experience in PV system installation

  • OSHA 10 certification




Where you will sit and the places you may go…

This position is located in Sacramento, CA and may rarely require up to 25% out-of-town travel to regional offices and special projects such as company-wide celebrations, team building exercises, etc. Availability to work nights and weekends may very rarely be required.



GRID Alternatives may provide vehicles for work travel and/or travel reimbursement for personal vehicle use. In this instance, applicants must hold a valid driver’s license and have a good driving record.

This is a full-time, exempt position. Salary pay commensurate with experience within the pay band ($90k-$110k annually), plus the benefits below.
