Functions


The Electrical Engineer III will work without the need for supervision to assist in the design and design integration of a government or commercial ship program. The Electrical Engineer III will identify and execute the tasks necessary to complete contract-specific electrical engineering and design. Such work will require interaction with experienced engineers within the department, Procurement, and other engineering disciplines, as well as with Project Management. Research and analysis functions may include project evaluation and monitoring, the ability to produce and analyze calculations, ensuring compliance with government regulations, and performing data analyses relevant to project tasks. Additional duties for the Electrical Engineer III will include scoping change, determining impact to design documentation, creating or editing design drawings using AutoCAD, spreadsheet data entry, tracking, maintenance, calculations, etc., with limited to no guidance from other experienced electrical engineers within the department.


The Electrical Engineer III will work closely with team members to: 



  • Review documents, diagrams, and analyses

  • Coordinate with project stakeholders to ensure quality deliverables are submitted in accordance with the Contract requirements.

  • Develop Technical Specifications to assist the Purchasing Department in the development of Purchase Specifications

  • Review Vendor proposals/submittals against Technical Specifications to determine compliance.

  • Produce detailed plans of action and deficiency reports to support the project objectives and schedules.

  • Assist the Production Planning Department with construction planning support activities.

  • Assist Production as questions concerning design documentation to arise and work closely with shipyard personnel.

  • Mentor and provide performance-related feedback for less-experienced electrical engineers to the department manager, up to and including individual performance evaluations.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.



  • May have team leadership responsibilities over employees.  Will have mentorship responsibilities over junior employees. 


Reporting Relationship: This position will report to the Engineering Department Manager.


 



Requirements

Qualifications


Education/Experience: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering



The qualified candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience:



  • 10-15 years of Electrical Engineering experience in shipbuilding

  • Ability to interpret Contract requirements and specifications.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and AutoCAD.

  • Proficient with at least one power distribution system analysis software program such as ETAP, Paladin, SKM, Easy Power, etc. to assist with various analyses.

  • Proficient with Classification Society Standards, such as ABS, GL, DNV, etc.

  • Proficient with Government specifications and military (Navy, USCG) standards

  • Proficient with the creation of deliverables such as Electric Plant Load Analyses, Electrical One-line Diagrams (AC, DC, Lighting), Short Circuit Analyses, Protective Device Coordination Studies, Voltage Drop Calculations, Short Circuit Analyses, Arc Fault Analyses, etc.

  • Proficient with at least one ABS design standard, such as SVR, NVR, INSG, HSNC, etc.


Desired: The following knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience are preferred but not required:



  • Experience with CDRL deliverables development

  • Experience with Technical Specification development

  • 10-15 years of Electrical Engineering experience in DOD/DHS (Navy, USCG) shipbuilding
