Description

JOB FUNCTION:

Assist the Head or Group Teacher in carrying out those activities which will insure that the classroom meets with the Head Start Performance Standards and State Licensing Regulations.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

1. The Floating Teacher Assistant will be available to assist in all centers with assisting the teacher in planning and implementing educational activities in the classroom and interact with children in a developmentally appropriate manner. Assist the Teacher in the development and implementation of individualized plans for children.

 

2. Assist the Teacher in observing, screening, assessing, and documenting children's growth and development. Document observations and individual activities in blue books.

 

3. Assist in carrying out administrative duties as delegated by the teacher.

 

4. Assume Teacher responsibilities in the absence of the Teacher.

 

5. Prepare and maintain appropriate records or reports. This may include maintaining daily attendance record of children and managing records of classroom in-kind. Submit accurate records of in-kind on a monthly basis.

 

6. Participate in weekly Center staff meetings and all other meetings as requested. Attend training and workshops.

 

7. Encourage and coordinate parent and volunteer involvement. Accompany Teacher in making educational Home Visits and Parent/Teacher conferences as requested by Teacher. Coordinate classroom volunteer program.

 

8. Any other Head Start task as delegated by Teacher or management

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Must have a Child Development Associate (CDA) or enroll immediately in CDA program or immediately enroll in early childhood coursework leading to an associate or bachelor degree.
  2. Must have a High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  3. Must have a car available on a daily basis.
  4. Must be able to read and write sufficiently to maintain proper records.
