Essential Functions

  • Conducts complex, non-routine risk-based audits for IEMA-OHS.
  • As Senior Auditor, prepares comprehensive audit programs, recommending and detailing duration, scope, and purpose of an audit.
  • Consults with the Chief Internal Auditor regarding any changes to the audit program, problems which have occurred, and the progress of any active audits.
  • Conducts special projects for the Chief Internal Auditor as required.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree, with coursework in auditing, business management, public administration, economics, computer science, accounting, or other related subjects.
  • Requires four (4) years of professional auditing experience; or requires three (3) years of professional auditing experience plus completion of one (1) of the following certifications: Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Public Accountant or Certified Information Systems Auditor.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible accounting experience in a public or private organization.
  • Three (3) years of experience utilizing audit theory and procedures for a state or federal government agency.
  • Three (3) years of experience utilizing management principles and techniques including organization, management, program accountability, governmental operations and/or systems analysis.
  • Three (3) years of experience practicing strong conceptual, communication, comprehension, interpersonal and analytical skills.
  • Three (3) years of experience using computer spreadsheets and word processing applications on a routine basis.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires a criminal history check through the Illinois State Police.
  • Requires the ability to use state-supplied equipment such as cell phone, laptop, etc.
  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate. Requires appropriate, valid driver’s license.
  • Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This may require the ability to work evenings and weekends.

Work Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00a-4:30p
