We are seeking a detail-oriented Lab Technician to join our lead-acid battery recycling team. In this role, you will analyze refined lead and perform water testing to ensure quality control throughout production. Safety is a top priority due to lead exposure, so personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
The ideal candidate will conduct tests, document results, and collaborate with team members to maintain a safe and efficient environment while ensuring compliance with our Environmental Compliance Approval (ECA). Main Responsibilities:
- Participate in Audits for ISO + MECP
- Support Health & Safety Program
- Provide chemical and physical analysis in support of the Toronto facility operations.
- Complete sample preparation, quality assurance and quality control of material.
- Perform analytical tests on material and instrumentation methods for detailed trace level analysis
- Responsible for data entry, laboratory record management, control charting, and for maintaining analytical method performance logs to ensure quality results.
- Receiving and shipping approval of material and documentation, including production batch processing preparation.
- Ensure that results, reports, and product release forms (including certificates of analysis) are completed, recorded and appropriately reported/distributed in a timely, efficient and professional manner.
- Carry out neutralization and other treatments to manage, dispose of and recycle chemical products, and participate in developing new treatment processes
- Operate Water Treatment Plant and associated record keeping
- Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain working order of laboratory equipment.
- Perform routine instrument preventative maintenance and calibrations.
- Report concerns about samples, analytical results, and equipment problems to the Management Team.
- Order, track and maintain inventory of day-to-day laboratory supplies and chemicals as required.
- Provide technical support and onsite analytical chemistry expertise on assigned projects
- Generate and maintain controlled documents
- Maintain lab conformance to ISO 09001:2015
- Operate and maintain air monitors in neighbourhood, along with record
- Keeping and reviewing quarterly + annual reports
Experience, Skills & Education:
- Previous laboratory experience in an industrial environment is preferred.
- Chemical Lab Technician/Technologist diploma; A Bachelor’s degree is considered an asset.
- Familiar with environmental regulations (CEPA, Ontario Reg. 347/558, TDG, etc.) as well as internal and external industry specifications that support the business is an asset.
- MS Office (Access, Excel, Word, SAP, Outlook etc.) proficiency.
- Ability to adjust to rapidly shifting priorities, and to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to provide clear, concise direction to plant staff to assure appropriate treatments are applied.
- Sound ability to assess risks related to mixing chemical products.
- Proven communication (written / verbal) and mathematical skills.
- Effective organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Strong team player with the ability to work independently
Working Conditions
- This position is performed primarily in an industrial laboratory setting. Our laboratory is organized, methodical; however.
- Standing for a long period will be required, and you must have the ability to walk between the laboratory and the facility processing area.
- This position will require you to retrieve samples from designated work areas within the facility with exposure to ambient conditions consisting of noise, dust, dirt, odors, hot & cold, wet conditions.
- Rotating Day/Afternoon Shifts
Work Schedule:
This position will operate in an industrial setting that operates 24 hours per day, 5 days per week. You may be required to work additional hours and/or outside of regular scheduled hours to meet customer requirements.
