Job Summary

This position is responsible for providing administrative assistance to the County Attorney’s Office.

Major Duties

  • Prepares state petitions and files for prosecution and pre-summons.
  • Prepares dockets for court.
  • Prepares orders.
  • Prepares declined and deferred forms.
  • Prepares and types a variety of letters and memoranda.
  • Files and indexes documents.
  • Answers telephone and greets visitors; provides information and assistance.
  • Scans and faxes documents.
  • Schedules depositions and mediations.
  • Prepares medical records requests.
  • Attends meetings and conferences; prepares minutes.
  • Attends court hearings.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of legal terminology, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of computers and job related software program.
  • Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.
  • Skill in the preparation of clear and precise administrative reports.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing in the English language  and orally in the Spanish language. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
  • At least one ( 1 ) of work experience in secretarial and or legal assistant.

Complexity/Scope of Work

  • The work consists of varied duties in the provision of legal services to the county. The variety of tasks to be performed contributes to the complexity of the position.
  • The purpose of this position is to prosecute and defend assigned civil and criminal cases and to provide legal counsel and advice to county departments.

Other Requirements/Information
  • Must possess a valid and current Texas driver's license.
  • Drug and Alcohol Policy applies to this job. Pre-employment drug/alcohol testing, Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and criminal background checks are required.
  • This position is not covered under Civil Service; however, all other Webb County policies apply.
