Job Summary
This position is responsible for providing administrative assistance to the County Attorney’s Office.
Major Duties
Prepares state petitions and files for prosecution and pre-summons.
Prepares dockets for court.
Prepares orders.
Prepares declined and deferred forms.
Prepares and types a variety of letters and memoranda.
Files and indexes documents.
Answers telephone and greets visitors; provides information and assistance.
Scans and faxes documents.
Schedules depositions and mediations.
Prepares medical records requests.
Attends meetings and conferences; prepares minutes.
Attends court hearings.
Performs any other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
Knowledge of legal terminology, policies and procedures.
Knowledge of computers and job related software program.
Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.
Skill in the preparation of clear and precise administrative reports.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Ability to communicate orally and in writing in the English language and orally in the Spanish language.
Minimum Qualifications
Must have a high school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
At least one ( 1 ) of work experience in secretarial and or legal assistant.

Complexity/Scope of Work
The work consists of varied duties in the provision of legal services to the county. The variety of tasks to be performed contributes to the complexity of the position.
The purpose of this position is to prosecute and defend assigned civil and criminal cases and to provide legal counsel and advice to county departments.

Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
Communicating with others to exchange information.
Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
Assessing the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.

Other Requirements/Information
Must possess a valid and current Texas driver's license.
Drug and Alcohol Policy applies to this job. Pre-employment drug/alcohol testing, Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and criminal background checks are required.
This position is not covered under Civil Service; however, all other Webb County policies apply.
