Job Description






POSITION DESCRIPTION: 

The Machine Operator will be classified as Machine Operator I, II, III based on experience and skill set. Machine Operators are trained in all areas of the facility based on business need, employee aptitude and interest.  

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Possess pride in own workmanship, demonstrates attention to detail, and work safely. 
  • Maintain clean work area and follow all safety rules and procedures to ensure the highest level of safety, quality, and productivity are being met. 
  • Band bundles of tubes and move them to cutting process or to storage. 
  • Work from rolling schedules to ensure that proper size, gauge, length, and material bundle configuration is being processed. 
  • Operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and transfers in order to move materials.  Perform visual inspection on tubes, removing burrs and ensuring inside/outside surfaces are clean. 
  • Provides quality assurance inspections and provides ideas on changes to ensure end product meets specification. 
  • Visually inspect finished goods for quality defects and reject non-conforming product i.e., scratches, die marks, weld splits, and end cut conditions. 
  • Identify steel shapes, sizes, and mill tolerances. 
  • Prepare / stack / assemble bundles correctly to protect product from damage. 
  • Repacking and banding – repack tubing into bundles, pack, and / or band bundles according to customer requirements. 
  • Work directly with mill operator on set ups. 
  • Supply tube mill machinery with coils of steel. 
  • Help receive and unload incoming material from suppliers. 
  • Offload, hand stack, and package steel tubing manually. 
  • Move material into inventory storage, staging areas, and work areas. 
  • Follow work instructions to produce tubing per customer specifications. 
     

Required Background, Competencies and Expertise: 

  • Ability to read, write, and perform higher arithmetic computations involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers, decimals, and fractions. 
  • Ability to understand and carry out semi-complicated verbal and written instructions. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate with vendors, co-workers, supervisors, and managers. 
  • Ability to work under periodic supervision focused on the progress of work and setting priorities for job completion. 
  • Ability to learn to use measuring devices to measure tubing. 
  • Consistently and reliably work scheduled hours at assigned location. 
  • Must be able to read and write legibly. 
  • Wear all required PPE and follow all applicable safety policies.
