Summary:
The Production Supervisor, organizes and directs activities of a defined product packaging segment within the production department to achieve the highest levels of employee engagement, safety, service, quality, inventory control, and customer service for a designated shift with the goal of delivering targeted financial results.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Leads, assigns, and manages the tactical activities of the Production department to achieve the strategic direction established by senior leadership.
- Develop shift team capability and solve problems through close collaboration with engineers, peers, quality, maintenance, warehouse, and planning.
- Trains, coaches, and develops employees within the department to ensure performance expectations and department objectives are met according to established standards, including ensuring all training requirements are met monthly; manages performance expectations, delivers feedback, and maintains high levels of employee engagement ensuring positive employee relations.
- Identifies, leads, and drives opportunities around equipment and/or methods to improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), LEAN manufacturing principles, labor utilization and quality requirements.
- Controls operational costs, including but not limited to standard labor costs, inventory costs, scrap rates and equipment downtime, to ensure the production department operates within the set budget.
- Coordinates with other departments on planning and scheduling production runs, changeovers, preventative maintenance and work order assignments and other related activities.
- Collaborates with the Focused Factory Managers to establish and/or revise Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Instructions (WIs) and best practices for the production department.
- Directs and performs all work in a manner that is consistent with the company’s quality system and FDA good manufacturing practices, includes always maintaining a clean and orderly production area.
- Coordinates and participates in root cause analysis on OEE shortfalls. Develops and executes corrective actions that improve equipment performance, cost, quality, and customer service.
- Follows, promotes, and enforces KDC’s safety and environmental policies, practices, and procedures.
- Assists with safety investigations and corrective actions related to safety hazards and/or incidents.
- Maintains confidentiality of employee personnel records and salary information; customer information (e.g., new customers, products, volume) and company sales and financial information and other sensitive and confidential information.
- Exhibits regular and predictable attendance and works outside of the normal schedule as needed due to workplace demands (e.g., supporting off-shifts).
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma, G.E.D or equivalent degree is required. Associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering, Business Management, Operations Management or related field is preferred. In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 3 (three) years’ experience in a filling/packaging environment is required.
- Minimum of 2 (two) years of supervisory experience in a filling and packaging environment is required; cosmetics or pharmaceutical experience is strongly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of: Microsoft Office Suite: FDA Good Manufacturing Practices and OSHA Safety Requirements; SAP or related inventory management system; LEAN manufacturing principles.
- Skill in: pro-actively solving problems and identifying and implementing solutions to prevent recurrence; prioritizing work to ensure deadlines are met; managing, coaching and developing others.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
- Must be able to occasionally lift to 50 pounds manually.
- A climate-controlled manufacturing environment; the noise level is usually moderately loud.
- Must be able to sit for long periods of time in front of a computer and stand and walk for long periods of time on the Production floor, use hands to handle and feel, reach with hands or arms, stoop, crouch, talk, hear, push and pull.
- Exposure to frequent movement of motorized equipment throughout the facility, including electric pallet jacks, forklifts, etc.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Manages and directs the work of up to 35 non-exempt employees.
