Lead investigation of complex chemical system performance, PEM Electrolyzer stack components, and chemical processing problems. Understand causal mechanisms, recommend appropriate action, and document results. Apply specialized knowledge of chemistry and related industrial processes with engineering principles and practices to identify and advance solutions for design, manufacturing, and quality requirements. Create, manage, and improve methods such as chemical and chemical processing validation, quality auditing, design validation and 7-step problem solving. Use systems knowledge and expertise to make decisions in the areas of chemical and chemical processing selection and innovation, as well as qualification and inspection that impact product or project direction. Apply tools and techniques such as chemical characterization and testing, material characterization, measurement, simulation, and statistical data analysis to facilitate processes and to enable higher quality decision making. Obtain input and negotiate with Quality, Supply Chain, and Engineering functions and industry peers and deliver complex material and material processing solutions to these functions to enable internal and external customer success. Ensure chemical capability and quality requirements are clearly understood, effectively documented, and appropriately implemented to drive consistency of product. Provide problem resolution leadership for complex systems. Lead the development and improvement of work processes and systems across function(s) within a global business unit or managing improvement across business units. Utilize Component failure analysis to recommend corrective actions considering material limitations and manufacturing constraints to protect the customer and prevent reoccurrence. Characterize materials by interpreting mechanical, chemical, microstructural and physical properties to confirm compliance to print, and correlating these properties with field or component test results to determine robustness and defining appropriate material characterization schedule to ensure requirements are met. Apply principles of Component Material and Process Selection by evaluating component requirements regarding form and function in order to identify base material and processing options, selecting manufacturing route and selecting material and process based on best-fit option(s) aligned to requirements, and validating selected material and process by defining necessary test plan to prove capability to requirements.
Positions require a Master’s degree in Mechanical, Materials, or Chemical Engineering, or related field and 3 years of experience as a Materials, Chemical, or Quality Engineer or Technical Specialist or related position. Alternatively, the employer will accept a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Materials, or Chemical Engineering, or related field and 5 years of experience as a Materials, Chemical, or Quality Engineer or Technical Specialist or related position.
