Position Summary

The Vopak Global IT department “Infrastructure Support” provides technical application, network, security, server, and database support to ensure the continuous availability of the Vopak business- applications. The Global Network Services team is responsible for providing global WAN connectivity (a service outsourced to a global network provider) and LAN connectivity within the Global IT data-centres and locally at various Vopak terminals world wide.
Within the Global Network Services team we have a position for a network engineer with good technical, communication, organizational, process and project participation skills.

Essential Job Functions

  • Abides by all safety procedures and practices applicable to location and position; participates in appropriate safety training; demonstrates commitment to and support of SHE principles and values; champions safety as necessary
  • Drive the use of ITIL and IT-security concepts during daily incident-, change- and problem management.
  • Responsible for professionalizing daily network-support, referring to designs, process descriptions and CMDB data rather.
  • Daily support includes troubleshooting, network-monitoring, maintenance and performance-tuning.
  • Initiate/participate in a team-effort to assess the network infrastructure.
  • Continuously drive to actively suggest and implements technical & support improvements.
  • Works both independent as well in cooperation with the other support-teams and the business.
  • Undertakes stand-by duties, planned work in the maintenance weekends.
  • Assists the Director of IT in planning and managing the development and implementation of medium/large information system projects for the company
  • Manages projects from inception, defining the scope, delivering specified requirements, meeting customer satisfaction, timeliness of project deliverables, within budget and with quality results
  • Assists with help desk requests; liaises with corporate IT people as necessary
  • Works with vendors to solve technical issues as required
  • Resolves user connection problems; identifies opportunities for systems improvements
  • Ensures network security procedures and policies are implemented and enforced
  • Coordinates external supporting activities such as training and testing
  • Maintains functional knowledge of networked and distributed computing environments
  • Performs other duties assigned by management that fall within the generally expected scope of this position

Experience Requirements

  • Demonstrable (at least 2 year) experience with professional support of a business-critical LAN & WAN infrastructure.
  • Experience in a team lead role
  • Good-level experience with network & telecom (CISCO switching, Wireless LAN, Firewalls, IPSec) is essential.
  • Good administration, documenting and network drawing skills and willing to update technical documentation repository.
  • Motivated to initiate and participate in a team-effort to assess the network infrastructure: actively suggesting technical & support improvements.
  • Comfortable working both on your own, and in cooperation (technically and functionally) with the windows, unix, database, and application support-teams.
  • Interested in improving project-involvement and plan-based working.
  • A strong common-sense approach to IT-support & troubleshooting.
  • Familiar with ITIL, project management and IT-security concepts.
  • Enthusiastic team-member, capable of working in stressful and under pressure conditions.
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written). Spanish is a plus.
  • Able to follow, maintain and develop working procedures.
  • Aware of organizational processes
  • Currently in possession of (or qualified to obtain) TSA TWIC
