Salary Range: $41.38/hr - $52.82/hr*

The Paralegal II working in a Labor and Employment (L&E) capacity is responsible for working with Firm attorneys, clients and professionals to support a wide range of litigation matters including primarily, those within the L&E practice group. The Paralegal II will typically perform billable tasks associated with case organization, discovery, trial preparation and trial/arbitration. The Paralegal II will provide guidance for case support professionals and organizational support on all Firm matters.
Job Functions & Responsibilities
- Assist with preparation of complex legal documents, discovery, analysis of wage and hour records and creation of damages analyses, deadline management, mid-level legal research activities, trial preparation, and other tasks related to the Labor & Employment practice area.
- Ensure case organizational protocols are followed.
- Partner with case teams and other colleagues to address client needs.
- Provide on-site trial support (including out of state trials).
- Conduct cite checks on both federal and state court filings, including substantive proofreading and editorial content review.
- Conduct calendaring and docketing legal analysis including maintaining an active and accurate secondary calendar for case teams.
- Conduct legal research on a broad variety of topics.
- Review and process subpoenas, including compilation of personnel data/records and communication with requesting parties as needed.
- Provide motion and deposition support including preparation of shell documents, deposition notices, subpoenas, and declarations. Will also manage transcript databases, exhibits, witness interviews, and filings.
- Assist with discovery including:
- Drafting shell written discovery and objections.
- Participation in document collection processes and subsequent document reviews.
- Production of privilege logs.
- Engage in fact development.
- Facilitate foreign language document translations.
- Coordinate and provide key support on appellate filings including preparation of appendices and management of final document submissions.
- Support trial lead by responding to direction and exhibiting ownership over deliverables prepared in support of overall trial objectives.
- Implement post-matter closing instructions including:
- Compliance with litigation holds.
- Compliance with document destruction policies.
- Compliance with protective order provisions.
- Preparation of cost bills (Bill of Costs) for recoverable fees and costs.
- Actively participate in firm-sponsored trainings and strive to apply learned principles in ongoing work.
- Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Qualifications
- MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
- High School Diploma required, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Paralegal Certification (California Business and Professional Code Sect. 6450 compliant).
- 5+ years of relevant experience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe tools.
- Proficiency with typical legal support software: Westlaw, Lexis, Relativity, iTimekeep, Case Notebook, or other similar billing and case management tools.
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills to communicate clearly and effectively to support workflows as appropriate.
- Ability to follow direction on requests from letterhead attorneys and then execute on assigned tasks.
- Strong reasoning skills to conduct effective research to support assigned matters.
- Ability to interpret complex substantive facts and themes as related to assigned work.
- Ability to be flexible in work direction, and on assignments.
- Ability to draft common litigation forms and edit legal documents.
- Strong cite-checking skills and the ability to produce accurate and timely results.
- Ability to be available, as needed, to work extended hours, nights, and weekends.
- Ability to demonstrate initiative, good judgment, and attention to detail with a team-centric focus.
- Ability to quickly respond to constantly changing instructions, particularly when under pressure at trial, and understand substantive case facts and themes to effectively support trial team.
- Ability to be proactive and take initiative in seeking work and managing caseload, consistently produce high quality work product, regularly check for errors and make corrections when necessary, take ownership of projects and complete assignments within the prescribed timeframe.
- Fluency in a foreign language is preferred but not required.

Working Conditions
Primary work will be in the office and on occasion be required to work at a trial site, a client office or other alternative work location.

No direct reports but will be assisting letterhead with direction of workflow and resources in trial situations.
