About this Role:

As a Paralegal supporting a thriving Wills & Estates practice in our Business Law department, you'll play a crucial role in client service and practice management. Bring your strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and proactive approach to help our team deliver excellent client care.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Draft estate planning documents including wills, powers of attorney, and personal care directives.
  • Monitor filing and other deadlines.
  • Contact clients and related parties for follow-up information or as required.
  • Maintain follow-up system for review of executed wills and progress of probate process.
  • Gather Probate Application information and draft probate documents.
  • Monitor progress of estates administration, including preparation of inventories, advertisements for creditors, and applications to close estates.
  • Assemble documents for preparation of estate tax returns.
  • Assemble information and documents for preparation of personal representative final accounts and prepare final accounts.
  • Participate in meetings with personal representatives, heirs, and other interested parties.

 

What You Bring:

  • Experience: Graduate of a Legal Assistant or Paralegal diploma program. Experience as a Wills & Estates Paralegal preferred.
  • Skills: Strong attention to detail, proofreading, communication, and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities and stakeholders.
  • Mindset: Are a team player with a positive approach, take initiative, able to work independently, and problem solver.
  • Tech Proficiency: Experience with Outlook, MS Office, and document management systems, as well as a talent for learning new programs quickly. Familiarity with Athennian, Closing Folders, PropertyOnline, and ProLaw is a bonus.
