This is a full time position as a Teacher Assistant in the Preschool Program for the CCA YMCA. We are a Vineland School District based program that are CCA YMCA employees. Full time employees are eligible for Paid Time Off, Earned Sick Leave, and Paid District Holidays. Teacher Assistants work 7:25am until 2:25pm and are hourly employees. The Preschool Program works 10-months at 21 pays per school year with June (after school ends), July, and most of August off. Staff return around the last week of August to prepare classrooms for the next school year. Interested applicants should have experience working with children in a school setting and preferred to have, or be able to obtain, their NJ Substitute Teacher Certification. Bi-lingual strongly preferred but not required.
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Provides direction for the children in the classroom, and implements program curriculum. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Supports and follows the YMCA of Vineland’s mission, philosophy, policies, and character development program.
Implements curriculum within the established guidelines.
Assists in supervising the children, classroom, and all activities including ADA (IEP, PIRT, OT and/or PT) where appropriate. Follows all procedures and standards.
Nurtures children through purposeful programming dedicated to building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.
Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, staff training, parent conferences and parent/child events.
Assisting the staff with other duties as required for the operation of the Child Care Program.
Supports the program and goals of the YMCA of Vineland.
Abides by the Staff Code of Conduct and the Child Abuse Prevention Policy.
Works in cooperation with other staff members to assure the best possible environment for the participants meeting ECERs standards at the highest level obtainable.
Actively participates with the children in all activities throughout the day, including but not limited to swim lessons, gym class, and outside play.
Maintains sensitivity, patience and care to meet each child’s individual basic needs.
Promptly addresses any personal or programmatic problems and suggestions and directly to the Preschool Director.
Maintains confidentiality of the children’s and staff’s information.
Maintains program areas and equipment in a neat and clean manner.
Performs additional duties at the request of the Preschool Director
QUALIFICATIONS:
Meets educational and experience qualifications established by state law and the NJ Licensing requirement of a high school diploma
At least 18 years of age.
CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training within 60 days of
hire date.
Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting strongly preferred.
Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate
program activities.
Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships
with people from different backgrounds.
