Job Description                       

Brown Advisory is currently seeking a professional, energetic and detail oriented individual to fill the Private Equity Tax Accountant position within our Baltimore office location.  The position has been created due to internal growth of the Brown Advisory tax function and is designed to allow for rewarding career growth and opportunities for advancement within the corporate tax function of a global independent investment management and strategic advisory firm. 

A successful candidate will demonstrate the following key attributes:

  • Be thorough and accurate. There are a wide range of tax/regulatory filings for which you will be responsible for the timely and accurate filing.

  • Be proactive. You are eager to contribute and learn, ask lots of questions, and suggest improvements. You must be adaptable to changing circumstances and regulatory changes for both US and non-US tax regimes.

  • Work independently and follow tasks through to completion, proactively seeking guidance as necessary.

  • Have a positive attitude and the desire to continually develop as a tax professional within the Brown Advisory organization. This includes always striving to provide the highest level of service to support our team members across the organization as well as our clients.

Duties/Responsibilities of Position:

The duties of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Serve as a first level point of contact with external Tax Service Providers.

  • Assist PE Tax Manager with coordinating the delivery of K-1s across Private Equity Feeder Funds and other Alternative Investment Funds.

  • Assist and collaborate as needed with team members from Brown Advisory’s other alternative investment products (Venture Capital, Hedge Funds, Direct Investments, etc.).

  • Liaise with the Brown Advisory Fund Administration, Client Service Teams, and third-party fund administrator to coordinate delivery of accounting packages, partner allocations, underlying fund K-1s, investor information to external tax preparer.

  • Prepare and maintain schedules for K-1 tracking, foreign investor reporting info, stock distributions, partner transfers, state filing information, partner address changes, etc.

  • Coordinate the timely filing of the feeder fund tax returns, tax payments, and annual filing fees.

  • Prepare and file personal property tax returns and other ad-hoc regulatory filings as required.

  • Track and timely address federal and state tax notices.

  • Conduct tax research as required.

  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, participating in professional organizations.

Your Education, Technical Skills and Experiences Need to Include:

  • 1-3 years experience

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting or another related field

  • CPA License preferred but not required.

  • Prior experience with Partnership Tax Compliance preferred.

  • Tax research experience

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills

  • Excellent time management and high attention to detail of a large volume of deliverables

Salary: $60-85k. Commensurate with experience and location. Does not include bonus or long term incentive eligibility (if applicable).
