Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Director of Admissions, the Recruiter will assist in outreach activities throughout the Espanola Valley and surrounding areas. The recruiter will provide information on available programs and eligibility requirements to prospective students and their parents/guardians; review applications and related documentation for compliance; and provide assistance to students in completion of admissions applications. Provide campus tours and attends recruitment fairs. Provide routine advice, guidance and assistance to departments, employees and/or members of the general public related to application of policies, procedures and documentation regarding the admissions process.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Recruitment: Professionally represent NNMC at area schools, college days, and surrounding community events providing admission information to prospective and/or newly admitted students. Schedule and conduct presentations on academic programs, trades, and dual credit for territory high schools and colleges. Initiate continuous contact and relationships with assigned high school counselors. Assist in promotion of Northern programs including scholarships/financial aid, CAMP, summer programs, Dual Credit, etc. Assist students through the admissions process.
  • Planning & Development: Assist with the annual student recruitment and retention plan and facilitate various recruitment programs. Participate in and direct the development and implementation of a variety of college recruiting activities to attract and maintain students/prospective students, including special populations. Recruit for academic and trade programs that need to be targeted in those efforts.
  • Communication: Maintain and keep records of communication with prospective students, parents/guardians, high school teachers and counselors, and the community through events, appointments, phone calls, emails, and other media. Communicate and respond to student inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Admissions: Maintain confidentiality under guidelines of FERPA. Screen incoming calls, answer questions and direct calls as needed. Assist with Admissions front desk activities during busy seasons. Understand and be able to articulate the admissions processes, registration, book vouchers, financial aid/scholarships, etc.
  • Record Maintenance: Develop and implement effective methods of maintaining records to track student progress, follow-up on prospective students throughout the admissions process. Establish and maintain a database of potential students for recruitment activities and prospect mailings.
  • Administrative: Participate in committees, councils, and professional development activities as assigned. Ability to operate proactively and autonomously.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree; good communication skills and the ability to share crucial information to assist students with the admissions process.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

One-year prior experience working in a college setting; knowledge and understanding of Higher Education and recruitment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

  • Ability to provide excellent customer service.
  • Ability to interact effectively as either a leader or as a member of a team and work collaboratively with other departments.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with diverse student populations and their families.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems and to make evaluative judgments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Skills in database management, records maintenance, word processing and data entry.
  • Knowledge of admissions policies and eligibility requirements.
  • Ability to perform complex tasks and to prioritize multiple projects with skills in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Ability to complete moderately complex administrative paperwork.

  • Ability to perform complex tasks and to prioritize multiple projects with skills in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Ability to complete moderately complex administrative  paperwork.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Requires frequent and continuous sitting/moving about.
  • Ability to push/pull up to 50 lbs with the use of a dolly/cart.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment with campus tours which take place outside.
