Description

Overall, this position is responsible for supporting the activities of the Avanzando Equidad de Salud: Cancer Health Equity Research Center at the Mays Cancer Center, including but not limited to providing navigation support to patients who require assistance and are enrolled in any of the Scholars’ research studies conducted under the Avanzando Center.


Under general supervision, the RA/PN will assist patients experiencing social determinants of health (SDoH), coordinate needed services with the MCC nurse navigators and social workers, provide information on community resources available to address their SDoH, as well as assist with other Avanzando Center activities to advance its mission.


This position will also support other projects, community outreach, and education activities as needed.



Responsibilities

  • Complete all required IRB, UT Health San Antonio, and Avanzando Center-related training in a timely manner.

  • Work closely with the Avanzando Center team to ensure the day-to-day activities are completed according to the approved timeline and provide support to patients with their SDoH as needed. Assist with and participate in daily program operations such as regular team meetings, completion of tasks assigned, regular reporting on the Avanzando Center progress, keeping good communication and reporting with the Center scholars, and other tasks and responsibilities as required.

  • Maintains complete source documentation. Support completion of Center activity reports for sponsors, regulatory bodies, and other entities as necessary.

  • Performs general administrative duties in support of the Center and associated studies’ activities. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Assist in monitoring the quality and integrity of the Center’s data, program evaluation, and dissemination of results.

  • Support other projects and community outreach and education activities as needed.

  • This position requires a bachelor’s degree in science, health science, public health, or another health-related field.


 



Qualifications

  • Attention to detail by achieving thoroughness and accuracy when accomplishing a task through concern for all the areas involved.

  • Ability to organize and coordinate work within schedule constraints and handle emergent requirements in a timely manner.

  • Ability to monitor important and complex projects concurrently within a research environment or laboratory schedule.

  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing, to include writing and preparing memorandums, letters, and other official correspondence.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Lotus Notes/other e-mail software.

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred.


EDUCATION:



  • Bachelor's in a basic science is required.


EXPERIENCE:



  • None required.


PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:



  • Basic experience, interacting with patients, recruitment of participants, consent process and IRB requirements are a plus; proficiency in Excel and REDCap and experience in community education. The candidate must have good communication, writing, and multitasking skills and have a flexible work schedule to accommodate patients’ availability after hours or some Saturdays. PN certified by the ACS Leadership on Oncology Navigation program is strongly preferred.
